Playlist info, How to get Playlists working Options

Hello,
I have read of a lot of mixed results with audio playlists. Some work, some don't. Mine don't.

I wish to play audio tracks from a Windows network share (not locally connected Disk).

I have tried .wpl and m3u. I have tried creating the playlist in the same folder as the tracks but still no good.

Closest I have seen to an answer was a post by someone who suggested that the playlist paths should be changed from a Windows network path to a path in the format of ../folder/filename or similar so that WDTV could understand the path (as it doesn't understand Windows paths).

I gather this is a linux path that the WDTV understands.

Is there a simple rule of thumb to edit the Windows style path in a m3u file to the WDTV path style.

Try Playlist Creator and see. Be sure to test the various settings for relative paths, absolute paths etc. Let us know if it worked, and what exactly you did.

i use notepad to make a simple text file and save it as .m3u and it works fine for me
i use the playlist feature to make movie playlists and it works fine

inside the .m3u one per line it looks like this

\.data\TV Shows\Family Guy\Family Guy - Season 2\202 - Holy Crap.avi

so on my windows PC i mount the network disk which is called "stoage01" and it has shared called "Video"

inside the .m3u it has;

\.data\TV Shows\Family Guy\Family Guy - Season 2\202 - Holy Crap.avi

and it plays them fine

Been battling with playlists but have it sorted out.
Copying the music and playlists off iTunes and iPod is quite easy.

Copy all the music files to your HDD attached to the WD Live, I used a folder "Music".
Make a folder in this directory called "Playlists"
Go to ITunes and export the playlists as .m3u.
(If you want to you can use Playlist Creator to convert these to .pls)
Export/Copy the playlists to this folder
As the playlists give the path as: " ..\Path\Filename", the search starts by moving back a folder, then searching.
You can even access the HDD from another computer on the network and locate the playlists, click on them and they will play the music in the playlist.
Bit weird, If I click the .m3u playlist, it opens Win media player and plays the files. Yet if I click the .pls playlist that iTunes cannot export, it opens the iTunes, and plays the list.
