Hi all, i am new to all this so if this sounds like a noob question its because it is. Anyway back to topic i have just got a wdtv v1 running f/w 1.02.07 and i cannot change the resolution setting from auto, i just get the red circle in top right of screen, have searched on here about this problem but havent found a solution, have tried resetting and all manner of other things but none have helped so just wondering if i update firmware would this solve the issue or does any one know of anything else, All help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

I hope you're not selecting a resolution that your TV doesn't support? Anyway, works fine here with the latest FW, so yes, I would advise that you update and see. If you're not happy with it for some reason, you can always downgrade later.

    Thanks for your reply
My tv is a full 1080p HD sony model KDL-46HX703 and is only 3 weeks old but the problem was my wdtv was not allowing me to change from auto at all. No other resolutions were available in hdmi output mode. I sent the same question to wd support and they also suggested FW update which i did to 1.03.01 and has now fixed that problem. However i now have black lines running down the screen in every resolution mode only difference is in 50hz the lines are further apart than in 60hz and when i zoom in i see them as dots and are more visible on dark areas of films etc.
p.s file types i have tried and still get the black lines are. .avi, .xvid, , .mkv, .vob, .mp4, resolutions of 480i 480p 576i 720i 720p 1080i 1080p i also get the same lines running through composite.but i know you cant get hd through that but as i have some .xvid files tried it and still no good. Any Ideas ? thanks in advance

    try 24Hz, I really don't think you need 50 or 60..
some tv's, like lcd monitors, don't handle that very well, there is a difference between the wdtv output and the tv's own refresh, lower it to test and see how you make out..

    Thanks Rev Drew and WDUser
Finally got time to try it and it turned out that the tv was reading as the wrong resolution, Having spoken to sony helpline they told me how to set the tv resolution manually as apparently some copies of the user manual were released without some vital instructions and if anybody else has this problem go onto the sony.com site and browse the pdf ins manual for missing pages.
