    How is it that setting up a free server like Serviio connected me to my content on my PC in minutes when network shares on the same computer has proven impossible after DAYS of maddening configuring?

    I've never seen anything like it. Technology has become so complicated that it is nearly useless.

    Ad for Serviio much? Or you're trying to start a flame war... one of the two.

    Regardless, there's nothing complicated about the WDTV and it's so easy you don't even need an installed software media server. I'm going to ask a rhetorical question here, but when did sharing folders make "technology so complicated that it is nearly useless"?

    I'll just go on a limb here and assume this user has never seen a WDTV let alone taken the whole five minutes it takes to set one up.

    What I posted had no agenda, so no, you're not correct fanboy, I do own one and have spent days trying to get it to work with W7 with no success.

    Serviio works well for me, as does PMS (PS3 media server) as does Tversity, as does many other apps. My question is why is it this thing cant connect with my W7 machine for file shares when these free programs set up successful sharing in minutes?

    Fanboy, any productive suggestions or is your role just as fanboy?

    So I surfed this site some more and stumbeld upon support software that apparently helps map the drive to the WD: http://support.wdc.com/product/download.as...110&lang=en

    I hope this is what I've been looking for. It would appear that this is exactly what I was referring to, a simple piece of software that does what all the other apps I mentioned does. Hey Fanboy, if you're gonna lurk here try to be helpful with information like this instead of rhetorical questions.

    hmmm, yeah, there is nothing complicated about sharing folders and having your WDTV media player connect to them.

    Win7 user here, took 5 minutes to create and connect to my 4 shares.

    no media serving software was or will be used by me.

    I have switched to NFS which takes about 10 to 15 minutes for an average user to configure and nothing is shared by windows sharing, yet streaming works way better.

    and if you think Trendecide is bad, catch me on an off day, or on a weekend when I am in 'drinking mode' (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

    LOLZ yeah, I gotta agree with u man.. I am pretty computer savvy and at times I want to rip my hair out... It's just so ridiculous, between "permissions", homegroups, share this, share that, read/write, etc. it can get pretty confusing.. I've found thou if u have the right gear and it's functioning right then things tend to work themselves out...

    Personally, I have given up on Network Shares. Folders just wont show up. Media Server works good with TVersity.
