Backup any important data on the drive, then reformat the drive as NTFS with all default options selected.

It would have been nice if you'd mentioned that earlier. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

So in your case, backup any important data on the drive, then reformat the drive as HFS+ with all default options selected but no journaling.

    Hi,
I have the exact same problem and have been trying to see how to fix it in other forums but I've had no luck. I reformatted the drive as HFS+, disabled journaling and also updated to the latest firmware version. The only thing that changed after this was that instead of not recognising the drive at all now I am only able to see the WD Smartware folders but nothing else.
I am thinking the only way to fix this would be to re format to NTFS and try the software others have mentioned like MacFuse.
    Any other ideas?

    Thanks,

Before you switch to NTFS and use NTFS-3G etc. on your Mac, one last thing you can try is to completely remove all partitions from the drive, create a single new partition, then format it as HFS+ (non-journaled). Check if that works and let us know. I guess Macs should come with a utility to do this, else GParted is great.
