    Hello,

Yesterday I bought a WDTV Live, and I am somewhat happy, it plays my FLAC's without any problem and with great quality, and the picture is great playing 1080p without any problems or delays. Although I have som issues with the sound when playing certain video files...

Some dvd images, both .ISO and Video_TS VOB's, don't put out any sound at all, only high-volume-static noices. And when I play some .mkv there are no "voices-sound", like if that track is missing. Although the voices-soundtrack is somewhat hearable when I change my Onkyo Amp to "All Ch Stereo"

My problems... Are they Amplifier-related, or WDTV-related? And if they are Amplifier-related, what settings should I make on my Amp to make it right?

    My setup is as following;

WDTV connected with HDMI directly to TV
Optical sound cable connected to Onkyo Amp
Sound option in WDTV set to Digital.

I am glad to recieve any answer so feel free to write whatever comes to mind, I am thankful for all the help I can get!

    Regards

    Martin

    So some DVDs are fine?

Can you test the 'silent' DVDs on a standard DVD player connected to your receiver?

You can also try comparing MediaInfo reports of VOBs that do work and those that don't to see what the difference in audio tracks is, if any.

    Hi, thanks for your answer.

I will try burning the silent or faulty dvd's on actual dvd's and try them out. But how do I compare the mediainfo reports? I've been playing around a bot with the player and I believe that I need to setup my amplifier correct and it will work... I only use two front speakers on my system, might that be the problem? Like that the voice-track is on the center speaker "which I don't have" or something like that? That would take care of the silent dvd's, but I'm not sure whats wrong with those who just makes a loud noise?

You can download and run MediaInfo in turn on each of the VOBs, and look at the text format report for each to see which audio codec is used, and whether there's anything in common between the files that do not work.

However, I think the issue may lie with your receiver and/or connections, so you'll need to look into this first (especially which audio channel of a 5.1 file is being routed to which speaker). I cannot suggest anything in this regard due to lack of knowledge about your particular receiver model and its settings, as well as Onkyo receivers in general. I guess if you can make it work using the TOSLink/optical connection with any other device, such as a normal DVD player, then it should also work with the Live, as long as you set the audio output to Digital under Settings.

All the best, and let us know if you got it to work. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

    Hello,

I just tried burning the faulty dvd's to dvd-discs. The ones that just put out a loud noise... And they worked fine on the dvd-player that also is connected to the amplifier, and with working menus as well (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) when will they fix that on the wdtv? Hopefully soon... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Anyway, any thoughts on why the sound fails with these movies on the wdtv and not the dvd player?

The beta FW available at present does support DVD menus quite well.

If you connected the DVD player to your amp using the same optical cable and also didn't change any of the amp's settings, then it is quite possibly a problem with your Live (or maybe some weird incompatibility with your amp). Can you run MediaInfo on one of the VOBs that make a loud noise and check which audio codec is used?

Can you also use MakeMKV to create a lossless MKV from the DVDs that the Live has a problem with? Does that exhibit the same audio issues?

    Hi everybody,

I fixed the no-voice-track problem. All I had to do was to set the correct settings in my amp using Audissy. Done (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) Works like charm now, the amp sets up automatically depending on what kind of output the wdtv sends out, (dts, pcm, ac3.....)
