WDTVLive Plus issues- help please Options

I think I may have a faulty unit, bought last weekend, I'll post here and see if anyone has any suggestions before I return it. 1st problem: Won't connect to my router through ethernet cable. I've tried 3 different cables, straight, crossover, all 3 just blink the Lan light about once every 5 seconds. Have not tried wireless, do not plan to use wireless at any point and don't have an adapter anyway. 2nd problem: Can't update firmware. I've loaded the newest factory firmware to my SanDisk cruzer 8GB, formatted with the HP tool to fat32 and loaded the files to it. After numerous reboots and factory resets, I never get an update icon. I'm at firmware 1.03.29_B, trying to go to 1.04.22. to see if that solves the Lan problem. The cruzer is recognized in the video menu. Also, The light on the cruzer fades from off to on constantly. I find it strange that the Lan light and the thumb drive both blink and don't stay lit constantly. Any thoughts or help appreciated.

I think you may be right..

however, try formatting the flash drive again, just add the firmware files to it, nothing else, no folders, no media files, etc.
if it doesn't work, do try a different flash drive, they seem to be picky about what they like for firmware updates.

I have a Lexar 2GB drive that works perfectly so that is all I use it for, I keep it aside so it doesn't grow legs and when it's flash time, I dig it out.

I reformatted and tried again with the cruzer and a different thumbdrive I've had for years, same thing. This unit is going back later today. I'll grab another one and see how it goes, thanx for the reply.
UPDATE- Took back the old one, the new one is working perfectly. Time to start tweaking the new toy now.
