I've got the gen 2 player and it has been working happily for a few weeks now.

I recently left the player copying a few 1080p video files across from one drive onto my WD 1TB drive (both plugged into the WDTV player).

When I came back to the player I had a message along the lines of being unable to copy the files (I cannot remember the exact message unfortunately). I plugged the 1TB drive into my laptop and it appears I had run out of space before it could finish copying all the files (it had done some of them). Not a problem.

However now the WDTV player won't display an HDMI signal - it only works through composite where it was working fine beforehand. When I got the screen up through composite it had a message about the media library needing more space so I had deleted a file and that message has gone away now.

I haven't touched the firmware but all of a sudden the HDMI doesnt work???? I've tried a different cable which I know works with my PS3 and still no joy. I've tried cold booting and restoring the factory defaults and nothing seems to work.

    Does anyone have any ideas?

Did you try pressing the hard reset button as mentioned in the manual?

Yes I tried that as well.

As I mentioned I did get an error about not being able to copy some of the files across and also when i viewed it through composite I also had the message about not being able to aggregate or whatever the details of it are.

But either way - even if the 1TB drive is screwed in any way - surely this shouldn't stop the player itself being able to display via HDMI should it??? It doesnt even work via HDMI with no drives at all plugged into it

This is a weird one, that's for sure.

So, what do you see when you try connecting via HDMI?

You could try updating to the latest firmware version (1.01.77) if you don't have it. Other than that, I don't really know...

Can you try the player with another TV?

Well I just upgraded from 1.0.70 to 1.0.77 but still no joy (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

I always get the no signal message on my TV when either turning the player on with just the HDMI cable plugged in or when the composite cable is plugged in (which works) and I switch to HDMI output.

I've even tried manually setting the HDMI output between 1080p, 720p (50 and 60Hz) and Auto setting but no luck.

I'm really stumped as to why this would suddenly stop working (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

Im going to give it my mate a work to try at his place as he has the exact same player so I can then eliminate the TV from the equation.

If that doesnt work I've run out of ideas and I suppose will have to look at getting it replaced (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Make sure he tries with his own HDMI cable. It should just be your player connected to the rest of his existing setup.

Yeah, other than this like I said, can't think of anything else. Do raise a ticket with WD Support though, if you haven't already. Maybe they'll have some ideas...

I've got same problem. My gen2 lasted 3 weeks before the hdmi packed up.
Had a gen1 for 2 years no problems.

Composite works, but seem to have limited use of remote, can't select hdmi output or resolution manually.
Have sent it back to WD waiting for replacement.
    Have the latest update installed.

I recently bought my WDTV and its great but I dont know why it doesnt work over my hdmi cable ( http://www.amazon.com/Cables-Go-Velocity-4...4631&sr=8-1 )and tv ( Sharp Aquos LC-32D62U http://www.amazon.com/Sharp-Aquos-LC32D62U...p/dp/B000NEDYEC ), I think maybe its a compatibility issue but you are the experts so... anyone can check it out? I was thinking on buying another HDMI cable (v1.3) but I really dont know if is an TV issue, thank you in advance for your help!!!

Most probably the cables. Many people have solved their problems by trying alternate cables till they hit on one that worked. In any case, it's far easier to swap cables than your TV. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) If you have doubts re. your set though, you can always try on another TV with HDMI ports.

    Quick fix for this.

Trim the plastic back on the HDMI cable connection that goes into the WDTV.

It is a known problem and happened to a friend of mine last week. The connection is too deep in the wdtv for some hdmi cables, simple as that.

i have the same issue that cannot play thru hdmi (no problem for composite). i tried different hdmi cables. i tried different hdtv and still not work. in the audio/video settings, i selected hdmi and tried all the resolution available yet there is still no signal on my hdtv's hdmi input. the player will revert the video output to "composite" automatically.

could this be the problem that the hdmi port? or should i try trimming my hdmi cable just like that wdtvV1 did so? pls help.

@rolandhoo: I still suggest you try a few more cables of a different make, and also maybe with TVs from a different manufacturer, after you hard reset the player. If nothing works you can try trimming the ends of the cable as suggested above, and if that doesn't work, might be a hardware issue with your player.

P.S. Have you checked whether 1.01.75 behaves differently?

WDUser, i had tried so many ways as suggested by you or other forumers. But it just doesn't work at all. At last, I gave it up! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/angry.gif)

On the other hand, I can't remember whether the warranty is expired for my unit so I tried to contact WD support team and told them about my problem. Requested the WD support team to check the warranty for my unit (I guess the warranty should have already expired). Surprisingly WD support team was able to extend my warranty and created a RMA for me. Done the RMA and now I got a brand new player from WD! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

The original firmware is still 1.01.70 and i am not so sure whether i shall update to 1.01.75 or even the latest 1.01.77 because there are so many problems reported here about the latest firmware and it seems that people would like to downgrade back to 1.01.70 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif)

If everything works fine now with the current FW, I suggest you don't bother, unless there's something included in the new FW that really interests you.

for current firmware 1.01.70, so far the only thing that i can tell is that when playing .mp4 file, playback lags a little in certain fast moving/panning scenes whereas this does not happen on a newer firmware (1.01.75 or 1.01.77).

i know this because my previous unit was on 1.01.77

just wonder is there anyway to backup the current firmware 1.01.70 so that i could downgrade when necessary.

AFAIK WDLXTV has that feature, but not official FW.
