AFAIK it pulls down the information from http://thetvdb.com (and maybe other sites as well). Even if you have the files, I don't think the Hub's metadata DB can be updated manually. Although maybe I am wrong and there is a way to do it that I don't know about...

It can be done provided the XML file is setup right and the thumb you use has to me a jpg (not sure bout other pic types) has to have file extension renamed from .jpg to .metathumb

Can you tell us then how to setup the XML correctly, what its structure/contents should be like, what to name it, where to put it etc.?

I'm currently using black mamba theme, so I don't use metadata setup deal. But the XML and metathumb files need to have the same name as video file

So if I have My Video.mkv, then My Video.xml and My Video.metathumb (which is actually a renamed .JPG) would work? AFAIK the metadata the player downloads is not stored along with the media itself, or am I wrong? Also, to get this working one would need to know the exact format of the XML as well.

That naming scheme is correct (provided the xml is compiled correctly) and YES the files dloaded by the hub is stored on the same drive and location as the movie file. If i can I will try to locate an xml file example for a movie.

So File names are like this:
Man On A Ledge.mkv, Man On A Ledge.xml & Man On A Ledge.metathumb (and for the metathumb all you have to do is rename file extension of a jpg to .metathumb.

Also another lil hint, if you have one particular image u want to use for a folder, name it !folder.metathumb the ! makes it first to be seen in the folder by the hub. Hope this helps.

No prob, but I gotta, tell ya, u will have a lot of work on your hands compiling those from scratch, especially if u have a large collection. You may wanna consider some 3rd party software, like wd tv thumbnail builder, wd tv live hub XML-editor, thumbgen, wdtvhubgen, The TVDB XML Fetcher for the WDTV Live Hub 1.2, and theRenamer (good for renaming tv shows with proper naming scheme).
These are just to name a few, I'm sure there are many others out there, google them and good luck.
