I have gigs and gigs (nearly 500 DVD's) of files that I store on DVD's and CD's. It would be a great official or beta firmware update to add this capability so I do not have to copy the files off of them to external hard drives to play on WDTV.

Due to licensing issues and fees, this will likely never happen.

you want an external USB optical drive, you have to use modified firmware, no if and or but..

what would be nice is if there was an addon for the original firmware to give optical drive and network adapter support. dunno if that's feasible or not but sounds good in theory. put it on a thumb drive, reboot, voila, you have these features, remove the thumb drive and reboot, it is stock.
