Background: Long time WDTV user. Have 6 WDTVs, started with 2 WDTVs, then upgraded to WDTV Live, now added 2 WDTV live hubs. Have 5 running in the house currently, Use the HUB's to store media that the other units can see. Seems to work well,
Until recently. WDTVLiveHub1 started acting funny. Reboot and it sits at a loading screen till I hit home. Menu comes up, but doesn't think there is any local HD. Go into settings, system, drive management, and it thinks it has no HD. Still under warranty, so I RMA it, and get a replacement. Replacement arrives, I set it up, and start copying a few files back to it. During the middle it goes non responsive, so I power it down. Reboots with the same stuck at the Loading screen, so I hit home, only to learn that it doesn't seem to think it has a local hard drive any more. Unit seems to work otherwise, can see other network shares, and seems to play content, just nothing on the 1TB drive built in. Am I in line for another RMA? Or is there some issue that has a workaround. I just sent the previous one back yesterday, so this seems like bad news for me. I dont abuse it, its on its own shelf in a dark, 74degree room, battery backup, how can I be loosing hard drives so fast? Anyone see this same issue? I hate to tie up another 250$ for advance RMA. I'm loosing faith WD... |

As a note, a system reset to factory defaults did not help
Someone elsewhere made mention of a hard reset button hidden underneath, which (again) wiped the config, and managed to make the hard drive show up, with all the data still there. So, I guess this is the "fix", though I'd prefer to know WHY I'm seeing this issue, at least it looks like I can get to my data when it does poop the bed. |

A backup of your data on another HDD is essential, just in case. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

I had this happen on my #2 WDTVLiveHub today. Very frustrating to have to take the entertainment center apart to hit the reset, at least I know the fix. |
