Hi everyone,
Yet another problem with an mkv file - it plays fine on the PC, but on the WDTV there is no sound. File is a 720p BlueRay x264 mkv rip, picture is crystal clear but there is no sound. When the file starts playing, it says 'Audio: English (digital)', and I think that might be it? I'm piping both picture and sound through composite jacks at the moment. Firmware - updated to the latest beta 1.2.0.8 off the WD page (which, btw, seems gone now???) I should add I've played 720p mkvs through the WDTV with no problems before, this is the first time it's happened. If anyone has any idea how to fix this, it would be much appreciated indeed. Edit: nevermind, figured out the problem has been reported before, it's the DTS sound. Sorry! |

Well like me, I found a friend that had an old receiver that decoded DTS. The cost for that was nothing, he was just glad to get rid of it. Its just a JVC taken from one of those package deals from years ago, but it works great. Look around in your local newspaper for garage sales, you're bound to find one for next to nothing.

Hello guys.
I also am having problems with the .mkv sound working, even though I got a Logitech Z5500 which is supposed to support DTS right? So, what could be the problem ? It just says: Audio: English (digital) for me too. No sound all picture. I've got the WDTV >hdmi cable > tv > optical cable out > Z5500. Whatcha' think ? EDIT: Installed the prerelease firmware, now the sound is working. |

Hum maybe I'll give it a try then. I have the same issue with last official release, digital is ok wdtv>optical>z5500 but I was wondering how to have it through hdmi. Yeah you can atleast try it. well, I'm using a hdmi cable from the WDTV to my LCD so it should be working fine. You can also try change the soundsource while the movie is playing on options, sometimes there seems to be atleast 2 different options there. |

Any news on this yet as to whether a rollback to the earlier FW is of any benefit?
Would remuxing the audio work, say into ac3 or something along those lines? Lots of people seem to be having synch issues too with the latest FW release which is being solved(I think) by going back to version 3 FW. |

Guys, please help! same problem with .MKV format... Picture is crystal clear but no sound coming out using HDMI on my WDTV.... what do i do? The ironic thing is i have a couple of .mkv files that works flawlessly when i switched to (Stereo) Audio Output but the new .MKV files that i just downloaded (IronMan 20gb) and GI JOE (6gb) does not work for some reason.. i already updated the firmware of my WDTV to the latest version from the site and also toggled between Audio output of Stereo / Digital but still no sound coming out.... I have also tried using the Composite connection and still no sound... I only get a prompt on the screen Audio: English (digital) Any Suggestions on this guys... a bit frustrated i only bought this WDTV for the HiDeF format which is .MKV and it's not working.....
Is it possible that these files which are not working have something to do with DTS decoding? Any suggestions please... Appreciate it so much... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) Thanks Guys! |

Hi, If its DTS encoded then the WDTV Gen1 will NOT be able to decode the DTS for you, you then need to convert the audio or buy a receiver that decodes DTS. Also another option would be to buy the new WDTV Live it decodes DTS right out of the box. Cheers! |

I had the same issue i use the HDMI to the TV and my optical straight through to my Bose lifestyle. I saw great picture but no sound (obviously i used the digital setup in setting off the WD live). To enable sound I re encoded the movie with wondershare to get a new AC3 or AAC or what ever (just as long as it was 5.1..... I then added that sound path with a program called Yamb where i could delete old sound file and replace with new one... This ended up working fine - the only problem is it takes about 10-15 minutes to recode a movie and I have alot of mkv or MP4 movies to redo..
Although the only problem i am facing now is subtitles... I have added subtitle string into the audio file and added the video file but no luck... Any solutions for subtitles?? Richie |
