Hello. I bought the WDTV Live because it supported Dolby Digital (AC3). When I rip my DVDs I use a program called 'Handbrake'. For audio I select AC3 Passthru. This copies the 5.1 ac3 audio track from the DVD to the m4v fille.
Today I tried to play a movie. The video plays fine but I get "audio not supprted 1/1" Do I have to do something to enable audio....or did I just buy a box that can't play my movies? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) Here is the gspot read out from a DVD I ripped. (IMG:http://imgur.com/FoFoM.png) |

I have been having the same problem. I tried playing mkv files generated with DivX HD Plus Converter. I have tried playing DVD VOB files directly. Anything with AC3 pass through says audio not supported. Right now I use mkvtoolnix to extract the ac3 an convert it to mp3 or ogg and add it as a second audio track with the default flag to get audio. However this is a two step process and reduces 5.1 surround to stereo.
If anyone has a solution to avoid this, I would love to hear about ot. Thanks |

I ripped the Dolby 5.1 from The Beatles Love album, and saved them as .ac3, and they play fine. What won't play are the .dts audio files ripped from the same album. But that is for another thread.

If you rename the file extension from .m4v to .mp4, the passed-through AC-3 audio will play.

Do all the folks who're trying to play 5.1 AC3 audio have receivers that support the same? I'm sure you know that the box itself can only pass-through multi-channel digital audio?
