Don't know if this has already been raised here but appears come 2nd Dec, Youtube will block TV set-top boxes from accessing its content. Like wow, that means all three of the supposed benefits of the Live box are completely farking useless now, Pandora (US only), 360Live (overpriced) now Youtube. Ridiculous.
Not really WDs fault but crap none-the-less. Link Link2 |

Well this doesnt show me WDTV anywhere, it talks all about the Popcorn Hour not WDTV. It won’t affect your PS3, Wii, TiVo or other licensed YouTube partners, might WD be a partner?

Given the recent initial release of the WDTV Live, it would seem reasonable to assume that WD wouldn't have included YouTube service unless it had a strategic partnership in place. I could be wrong, but it would be a rare blunder for a forward thinking company like Western Digital to make this kind of mistake.
I guess if we see a firmware update around Dec 2nd, we'll know... |

LOL, my media center PC does youtube.. I want my wdtv-live to work as good as my modded wdtv, plain and simple.
If they can get it to work right and make that stuff work too, fine. oh I just got out of bed, not going back just yet! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) |

I'm hoping that wd will comment on this soon because it looks like this isnt rumour but fact. Put my unit on last night after spending a couple of hours putting youtube clips into my favourite folder and find that i can no longer access youtube through the wdtv. For me this was one of my deciding factors in buying this unit, without this functionality i may as well of just bought the original wdtv and not forked out the extra for the wdtv live. Overall i am not happy with this and would like wd to comment on why and how this has happened????????????

Not sure when you tried this but I did exactly the same (clips into favourites on PC then watch via WDTV) at around 22:00 UK time and had no problem at all. Will try again and post if any problems

I was trying this at around 7pm last night and couldn't access any part of the service via my wdtv. After reading your post Paul i have just tried again and hey presto it's working. Seems strange though that on the day that youtube were blocking the use of media streamers that my service stopped. I'd imagine or i'd like to think that our friends in wd had made a deal with youtube prior to yesterdays shutdown and allowed wdtv live to still be able to access the service. So far i've quite enjoyed using youtube on the big screen and yes sometimes the picture quality is awful but alot of the time it's more than acceptable. Thanks for posting this up Paul, i'm relieved to know we still have access to this and hopefully(nudge nudge wink wink) wd will add more services to this part of wdtv....bbc iplayer would be very nice (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Now, we can see some videos has been blocked, but not whole youtube. Users that upload the video
can set the option whether to allow set top boxes from viewing the video or not.. I believe, this is for marketing purpose. wdtv/set top boxes don't display ads.. that's why some people wants to block it. |
