    Hi,

I'm looking at getting a WD TV Mini. My TV is 1080i so I was just wondering if the Mini will downscale a 1080p mkv?

    Cheers

    Wayne.

No, it won't play a file encoded at 1080p in a mkv container. The mini is a budget media player, and doesn't manage HD content particularly well.

The manual (see appendix for compatible files) can be viewed / downloaded here:
    http://www.wdc.com/WDProducts/Library/UM/ENG/4779-705033.pdf

The only option for proper HD content is to re-encode as realmedia files, due to the odd decoder chip in the mini.

The Live TV devices are more expensive, and more powerful, and much more likely to do what you want.

The mini will, however, output a 1080i or 1080p signal, if you did want to use it for SD content, over component cables.
