I run a samba server and a vpn. It would be EXTREMELY helpful if I could just enter the path to my network shares instead of relying on the WDTV to pick up network shares automatically. I have tried for DAYS to make it see the samba shares with no luck. It seems like it should be simple enough to be able to manually enter my path \\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx(IP for the shares)\NetworkShares I dont know why it wouldnt be included in the first place.

you may want to try disabling your firewall on the computer so it's shares will be visible.
then create a 'safe zone' for your local LAN. |

I second the TS' suggestion. This has been a problem since WD TV Live Gen. 1.... Netbios is.
I have my WHS2011 server on a static IP address and I too, want to take advantage of this. Instead of WD TV Live SMP relying on Netbios for discovery (very unreliable), I hope for a way to be able to write the server's address and shares manually. |

Took me 4ever to get the SMP to find my NAS (appareantly my LINUX NFS based NAS is a windows share?!!!) Just adding the path would be so much simpler.
