Also to be able to adjust placement of the subtitles.

It would be awesome if it could display the original fonts and karaoke in animes I download. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

    Another vote for subtitles.
    * bigger font size than "40"
    * different colors and backgrounds
    * fine tuning of the position
    * carry a word over (on) to the next line - overrun with maximum possible width for 16:9 and 4:3 ratio ( for long sentences splitting by letters - no right grammar necessarily )

    Greetings, mve

No more advanced features for subtitles..

I had this tvix 6600N... I could chose the size and placement of the subtitles..

But the result was that nothing really worked. Most of the subtitles (no matter how small they were) filled 3 or 4 lines instead of 2. Perhaps it was a terrible font.. or the tvix didn't use the whole screen.

For now the WD works perfectly... do not ruin that with font and size selection. (Get a bigger screen instead (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) )

instead of thin/thick border of font, I would like bold font itself.

AFAIK, text format SRT subs in MKVs display just fine?

I'd like to know why WD is taking so much time to add this functionality (increase font size to a greater value and change font color).
It's so difficult to develop? There are hardware limits? I can't understand..

No, I don't think HW limits apply in this case. Like with a lot of other requests (including much more imp. ones IMO like DVD menu support, jump to time feature etc.), it's just WD dragging its feet as usual. There haven't been any new features for a very long time now, leave alone fixes for all the irritating bugs out there.

Please understand that for people who do not speak English (90.5% of the world population), subtitles are a HUGE DEAL. A deal braker.

    (IMG:http://www.asdk12.org/Depts/world_lang/images/Languages_World.gif)

Even in USA the 20% of people speak a different language other that english.(source)
I don't say what other request aren't important also (specially DVD menu support and jump to time feature) but subtitles are important too.
Thanks in advance for your efforts.

@antekgla/Paul: Who said subtitle support is not important? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif) Certainly not me. But the request was for the ability to choose the subtitle colour etc. Do you honestly believe that subtitle colour is more important than adding support for more subtitle languages, leave alone DVD menu support and the Jump to Time feature?

I stick by my stand that there are far more important things for WD to consider first before providing the ability to change subtitle colour. Not that it wouldn't be a handy feature, esp. when the subtitle's not visible since the colours match, but given a choice, I can do without it if the other highly requested features are implemented. Esp. since there are workarounds for subtitles not being completely visible, including changing the size, position and even hard-coding them using your favourite colours. But no workarounds exist AFAIK for getting non-supported subtitle languages to work, DVD menus to work etc.

I agree. The things you mention are very important.
My comment suggest that companies usually do not give too much attention to subtitles. Not only WD ((which in this case has done a pretty decent job) but Philips, Samsung, LG, etc. usually do not pay attention to this feature because its primary markets are people who spoke english.
I think the color of the subtitles is very important for readability. The yellow subtitles are read much better than white ones. It is not a cosmetic change only.

Thanks for read me, and sorry for my bad english (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Your English is fine. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) And yes, I do agree that internationalization is very important, and few companies get it right. Anyway, all we can do is hope that WD does a better job all around with future FW releases...

I really hate it when my subs come on the screen very high.. so I'd like to see an option to adjust the placing of the subs.. but the color doesn't have to change for me..
