These forums are huge. Please forgive me if this is the wrong place for this as I'm a new user.

I've tried everything on this forum to get my brand new WD TV Live player to see my SMB shares on my imac without luck. My mac sees the player. And Vuze shows up on the player and the mac. I'm running Snow Leopard not Lion.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Hope I don't have to take this unit back and settle for Apple TV? Also I have this hooked up to a remote power point that I shut down at night to save power on all my standby devices. When I remotely switch them on it boots the player up. Then if I'm not using it I have to switch it to standby with the remote. Can I not get it to power up to standby mode only?

    Cheers

Moved this to the Live SMP section, since most likely a recent purchase would mean you've got this model and not the original Live. If in doubt, post your exact model number and firmware version here (check About screen).

Regarding the remote, I believe on these newer models you can quickly press the power button for sending the device to sleep and turning off video output. However, a long press of the same button (3-5s) should completely shut down the player. See if that helps.

Lost my last post? It contained FW ver etc. Anyhow, this must be the newest model and I still can't share my Mac folders. Vuze works but the only other options on the WDTV LIVE are Windows shares or Linux shares. And selecting either of those can't find any of my SMB enabled shares. No patience for this. Bought this because I read "it just works". By the look of these forums, I would say not.

since WD pretty much killed the homebrew firmware scene for the live hub and the live streaming (by encrypting and locking the firmware) - and likely on everything else that will follow - nobody is buying them, therefore we don't know squat about them and can't really help anyone with them.
we can give the basics and (hopefully) point someone in the right direction but when it comes right down to it - WD is screwing the end users, personally I can't condone that and therefore try to point folks to a different media player.
and not an apple tv, they are fuxored like every other apple product and you have to jump through to many hoops to get that shit useable, besides, from what I've heard they only do 720p anyway.

    Really?
Well. I was told this little thing would stream media better than the Topfield PVR that i returned because of it's shocking software. This WDTVLIVE unit has firmware 1.09.10.
The model is: WDBGXT0000NBK. All it sees on my iMac running Snow Leopard 10.6.8. is Vuze media server. But when I try to play a file that I have transcoded on the iMac through Vuze the WDTVLIV just loops and locks and won't play a thing. The sharing on the iMac is wide open with every conceivable setting on the folders configured to give access to anything with an IP address. All I see on the network share menu on the WDTVLIVE is 'Windows' and 'Linux'. No SMB pick up works here. If I select either of the two, it just loops and locks. I've got a Sony smart TV that shares with my computer better than this thing! What other media player would you suggest I run with my iMac? I just want to stream my media. I don't really care about all the online services or other crap.
    Cheers.

I tried all three of those solutions as well. Also the Lion fix even though I'm running Snow Leopard.
Still only see Windows & Linux share options. I don't know if any one else has managed to get this model to share. My Mac sees this device on the network and anything plugged into it? Why can't it see NFS or SMB shares on the Mac? Close to giving it away now...

Well, I have the older models but never bought the SMP since WD did its best to block custom FW installation on it. Thus that's pretty much all I can think of right now in terms of solutions. Besides waiting for an SMP and Mac owner to hopefully come and help you, have you tried contacting WD Support and posting in the official forum?

Oh, and if you do get it to work, let us know how as well. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
