Is this faulty or just extremely bad luck?

I bought a WDTV Live media player for christmas.
I've had countless issues and it is absolutely infuriating.

    1. 5 minutes into videos they stop and never play further than that 5 minute point
    2. I've had a few movies cut out and die half way through the movie.
Once I was watching Easy Rider and this happened. I tried playing the file again, and then it would not play!
I tried for over an hour to fix it, before putting the file on the network, and then it worked.
    3. FF and Rewind don't work often for entire video files. These are the one I often have die in the middle.
    4. Right now I've just been trying to watch Duck Soup, and the audio is completely out. I play it on my PC, it's fine.
I downgrade, try again, still the issue, upgrade, still the issue.
    5. Various other but less annoying bugs and failures.

I am absolutely PISSED OFF with this unreliable PIECE OF SHIT!
I am not exagerating when I say that OVER HALF the files I play have an issues.

I had to stop myself from smashing the little shitty box against the wall today. I sit down after a shit day to watch a film and it does this...

I have another media that is 4 years old and unbranded (it's more like a biscuit tin) that is far more reliable than this western digital failure.

I'm an intelligent person and I know that feeling angry against a little black box is pathetic and stupid, but seriously, this plastic C**T should NOT cost near £80.
    I hate it...

...But how can I fix the bastard?
I know someones else who has one and he has had no problems, and he uses it x10 or x20 more than me.

Either a faulty box, or just something about your files it doesn't like, or maybe a combination of the two that makes it even worse. Try it at your friend's place if you can with the same files, cables etc. he uses and see. If it behaves the same way, you have a dud on your hands.
