My WDTV Live works fine most of the time. But one bug really annoys me. SOMETIMES when I play a VOB file (I stream movies from my computer to the TV, and most are VOBs), I get just a blank screen. Once it happens, it happens with all movies, and can only be resolved by resetting the unit to factory defaults.

As this unit is being used by my wife and kids too, that workaround is something only I can do (they don't have the patience!). So it's a nuisance.

Anyone know of a fix? I've read similar stories on this and another forum, but they weren't quite the same situation. (Some were playing compressed MKV files. Some were alternating between NTSC and PAL VOBs.)

    Cheers.
    Glenn

No one knows why this happens, but some files just seem to mess with the player and require a hard reset or removal of the power cord for some time to return the unit back to normal.

Thanks. It's a bummer, 'cos the unit is generally pretty good. Unfortunately, I've just bought one for my father-in-law, and he's even more impatient than my wife. I have a feeling it won't be long before I start investigating alternatives. Maybe a PS3...

With the VOBs that have issues, does it make any difference if the DVD is ripped as an ISO (using AnyDVD) or MKV (using MakeMKV) instead?

Also, can you try those same VOBs from a USB drive and see?

Which FW version do you have installed?
