It's not a problem with the WD live unit. It's the youtube account. You need to link it to your gmail account.

    http://www.google.com/support/youtube/bin/...mp;answer=69964

Do it, and you'll be able to instantly login into your live media player youtube.

Sorry but for me this fix does not work. My WDTV live still restarts even when I link the accounts.

Add me to the growing list of users whose unit crashes when logging into Youtube. I've tried all listed fixes. This is an issue that needs to be fixed with Firmware.

Ditto...tried both ways, still crashes and reboots. Running the .17 firmware.

I deleted my youtube account and created a new one, with different name.

I think it's linked, because when I login with my google acconunt, and go to the control panel, I see the youtube account under the youtube section.

    BUT WDTV LIVE STILL CRASH!!

I have my Youtube account linked with Google and it still crashes...

Youtube works fine if I don't try to log on.

Seems to me that if my WD Live is crashing is IS a WD problem.

WD, are you on the case???

My WDTV Live also crashes when I try to log into my YouTube account... It was a brand new account I started to use with my WDTV. It's not linked to my Google account, because it's linked to another email account. I don't really use google mail.

Why does it need to be linked to a google account? I can't see how this makes a difference.

I tried several times in vain. My firmware is the newest version xx.17. First, I tried an id that was not linked with google account yet. Failed. Second, I tried after linked the youtube id with google account, but Failed. Third, I tried to login with google account instead of youtube account, failed. Fourth, I tried google id + @gmail.com, failed. Then I created a youtube id for my wife's google account and tried the same sequences, all failed. Also, I created a brand new id that was not linked with google account, but failed. I don't know what else is possible.

The only thing left is for WD to fix their buggy firmware....let's hope that happens soon, as I'm starting to lose faith in this product.

This has been a problem since last December.

Apparently the WD developers know about it, but no information has been given about when, or even if, a solution will be released.

I've bailed on using the WD link directly to YouTube for my YouTube account.

I was already using PlayOn for my NetFlix and Hulu streaming, and PlayOn supports YouTube accounts as well, so I just go to Media Servers on the WD Live and connect to my PlayOn media server for all things related to internet video.

You would leave this product behind all because you can not access your account on YouTube? Come on thats not being fair to a generally great product, some media tanks have lost their rights to even play YouTube content.

    Cheers!

I myself still like the product overall. Does a great job of organizing my music and photos, both from my attached USB hard drive and online content. But if they are going to go to the trouble of including the YouTube link and tell you it's going to work, and market it as such, then they need to make it right.

Hasn't really affected me, since for internet video stuff I just link over to my PlayOn server. It does a great job of streaming content from there, including my Netflix movies, YouTube videos, Hulu and more.

My only complaint is when a company markets a feature, the feature doesn't work, and they go mute on it and don't give any indication of what the resolution is.

I'll second that. Not only 100% works, but a nicer YouTube interface!

    Thanks WD!
