i removed my hard drive last night to add more titles to the drive but upon reconnecting it started scanning (usb flashing) but then just went off with screen stuck on loading remote not working at all , any ideas anyone , i think i may return this unit as the remote just does not seem to work effectivley even when it is working correctly . will give it another go tonight .

With the drive attached to the PC,

    1) Run a thorough disk check

    2) Delete the .WD_TV root folder

Re-attach and see. If the same as before, try pressing the hard reset button on the player. Read the manual for more info.

right now if i unplug all the hard drive from the wdtv and switch it back on the remote does nothing and it goes straight to the loading screen and just hangs on that and cant do nothing with the remote trying to find something that relates to this in the manual and cannot find anything , thing is even when it was working the remote was not that fantastic to tell the truth so am on the verge of sacking this .

Ok, last thing to try - disconnect all devices, then update the firmware to the latest version, or if you already have, re-flash it. (To re-flash, you might need to edit WDTV.VER and increase the Version number.)

like i have said i cannot do anything with it now, when i turn it on, after displaying the logo it goes to the loading screen and just stays on that even left it for a few hours to see if it did actually load to no avai,l just stayed on that screen and that was with nothing attached , have ran disk check everything is fine , got to be a fault in the wdtv itself, so will be taking it back , so to do a firmware update it is impossible as RC is inopperable . liked it when it worked even if it was slow and rc was a bit poor to say the least , may try another make , dunno yet .

UNBELIEVABLE but i have just turned it on and now it loads so i have upgraded the firmware to 1.o3, hopefully now i should have better luck with it , just a note though some of the films i have just added now have no sound but this could be my fault rather than the machine so will hang on to it for a bit longer , and see how it goes .

Good luck! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Just for future reference though, even if the player's stuck at the loading screen (as happened to me when my first flash attempt failed midway), you can always yank out the power cord (a simple remote power-down won't do), plug in a freshly formatted (preferably FAT32) USB pen drive with the firmware files in the root, then plug the power cord back in. On power up, the player should recognise the new firmware and update automatically. That's how I managed to recover my player at least.

If it does this after a firmware flash, after a hard reset (not a software reset via Settings) and on using a freshly-formatted NTFS/FAT32 drive for your media (tried this yet?), then I suspect something may be the matter with your player. Contact WD Support and see what they have to say about it.
