So I bought a WD TV LIVE PLUS and returned my Apple TV because it was a PITA to convert to MP4.
On the apple TV, the netflix stuff streamed perfectly with the right proportions and no black bars. I have since installed the WD TV, watched the same TV episode (Dexter Season 2 episode 3) and now the picture is disproportionate and has black bars on the top and bottom. Is there a way to fix the aspect ratio to bring back the proportion and eliminate the black bars? |

Wd tv is set at wide screen and tv is 16:9.
I actually set the wd tv to "normal" then set my tv to 4:3 and the proportions turned out ok. The only problem was that there were black bars on all sides of the picture. At that point my conclusion was that the signal from Netflix was originally feeding 4:3 with a 16:9 picture using black bars at the top and bottom to fill the 4:3 area. |

Sounds like a pretty safe assumption. You try restarting the WDTV yet? Does it do this for all your Netflix shows (sometimes Netflix doesn't get the video right)? |

Yeah I tried restarting. This throws me off becausey apple tv streams the Netflix video in precisely 16:9 1280x720 for the same exact video
Will any of the custom firmwares for wdtv allow me to change scaling, crop, and aspect ratio to my parameters that I specify? |

QUOTE Will any of the custom firmwares for wdtv allow me to change scaling, crop, and aspect ratio to my parameters that I specify? I don't believe so. Have you tried using some of the other WDTV aspects (like 720p instead of 1080p) to see if that works? Are you using the latest firmware? Jut throwing out questions that might help you through this.... |

Yeah I tried both 1080 and 720 but I should probably try 50 hz in each
