Hi guys, trying to find some answers regarding the wd tv live 3gen.
I usually buy this kind of stuff on trips to the US, but I am currently visiting Switzerland (and no US trips in sight), and they have very similar prices for electronics here and so I wanted to get one.
What's holding me back is that I know they don't have netflix here, and it's not even shown on the box, so I wanted to know if there is any internal/hardware difference that would make netflix not work once I take it back to my country where we do have it.
Would a firmware upgrade install all the apps (netflix included) or would it check the hardware to know the model number and not install thise not meant for that market?
I have seen mentions of geolocalizaton also but don't understand how that kicks in since you can update from usb drive (unless it's just checking the region based on the hardware model)
So how exactly does it work?

There are no separate region-specific firmware releases, but certain features are enabled/displayed based on the location (as per IP address) detected during boot-up.

So if you buy the Live SMP, update it to the latest FW and take it back to a country where Netflix is officially supported, a device reset ought to cause the service to show up as mentioned here by a WD employee (see page 2).

    Hi, thanks for your reply!

So would you suggest I buy it here in Switzerland, take it back to my conuntry and set it up there? Or will the displayed service change automatically on each bootup depending on where it detects it's located? That is to say, if I buy it here, turn it on to make sure it works, then take it bacl to my country and when I boot it up there netflix will show up in the menu?

No hardware limitations/missing stuff as I read before that previous models differed across regions?

Other than default NTSC/PAL support, the hardware inside's the same AFAIK.
