I just came back from holiday and turned my WDTV Live on, started up ok and I went to the video menu (there is a HDD plugged in) and none of the video files would play, they are all .avi or mkv, they played perfectly fine before, I get a message saying "Unable to play the selected file. Please see User Manual for a list of supported file formats" I also notice there is now no network connection. I ejected the HDD and formatted a USB stick and put on an avi, mp3 and a .jpeg, none would play giving the same message. I have powered down which made no difference, I have the official firmware on 1.06.15_V, I tried to flash the firmware again but as it is up to date I could not do that. I have now run out of idea's what to do, it has been working great until I came back from holiday, no one else has had access to it, if anyone could give me any idea's what to do apart from binning it:) would be much appreciated.

have you removed the power from the device and then re-applied the power? turning it 'off' with the remote control only puts it in standby.
pull the power cord, wait a few seconds, insert the power cord, let it boot and try again. |

Yes I did do that, I pulled the power cable for several minutes, the last time I tried I left it unplugged overnight.

I have now managed to flash the firmware but this also made no difference.

not sure, haven't heard of that before to be honest.
I would recommend a reset in the menu and the reset button on the side and see if either of those make a difference, if not I suggest you contact WD and complain, a lot! I did when my live was almost 2 years old and I got an RMA, they replaced it with a live plus. |

Well I e-mailed WD support and have waited now 6 days and they couldn't be bothered to reply, I checked my serial number in the warranty check and it is still in warranty so I'll send it back.

Hallo,
I've got the same problem - yesterday was everything OK (it worked fine 8 months), and today I can't play any .avi files (which I played in last days) - my WDTV HD live player say "Unable to play selected ..."; I tried to do everything what I've found here and on other websites (reset from menu, reset by pressing reset button, unplug and plug power cord, downgrade firmare (from 1.06.15 to 1.05 to 1.05.04), delete wd_tv folders on my external HD's, let repair these HD's in windows via Disk Propertis->Tools->Error check->Repair ), but without any success. Has any body found some solution or the only way how to solve this problem is using warranty and put wdtv live player back to the seller? Thanks, Fifin |
