    Hi,

I recently bought the Apple USB Ethernet Adaptor, and it's working good(I get a IP Adress, I can use the IPKG application to download apps etc). However, I can't use xmount.

    I use this line:
    CODE
    xmount \\192.168.1.71\wdtv Elements cifs

But nothing happens. I tried using Putty and executed that line but it wouldn't happen anything. I can only assume something is wrong(with the line in my net.mounts). The computer is in a domain, does that make a difference? I have the guest account enabled.

EDIT: This is fixed, no everything is up and running, even streaming 1080P (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

    go here
    CODE
    http://www.mediafire.com/discows

and get disco's webserver app and extract it to your thumb drive in the wdtv, reboot it and you should be able to access the wdtv through a browser, so much easier to configure, takes all the guess work out of it.

Hey thanks, I have heard of that webserver but never found any url for it. An off-topic question: I've heard that ext3-boot mounts the WDTV filesystem in a file on your flash drive instead of direct read from the flash as WDLXTV does, that means that the flash memory never wears out in the WDTV itself, right? (assuming I am right) If so, I'll be switching to it as soon as I get home.. On monday that is.

I am forced to use ext3 boot as WDlxTV causes untold grief for me, I can't use it. not sure if newer versions work better or not but I will stick with what I know works for now!
and yes, the flash drive is always in the wdtv, or in my case a USB hub and every reboot it loads it all from the flash drive. It's a 1GB apacer, I don't care if it wears out, I have at least 6 more 2GB or less flash drives I came across in my travels for free (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

the flash memory in the wdtv is likely a ROM, I wouldn't be concerned about it wearing out anytime soon.

Still no go with Discows, I even tried creating a new user but it wouldn't connect. My fathers computer wouldn't connect either, I guess it's because my computer is in a domain(although I don't think it should matter).

on the computer, do you have to select the users who can see the share?
the problem may be at the PC and not the wdtv.

No, I don't have to select users(running Win XP), but I've added and allowed my 'Test' user I created for the purpose anyway. It didn't help. I also tried disabling Nod 32's firewall, but that didn't make any difference. I'll try another computer tomorrow too see if my computer is the problem.

    ToJa92,

I'm running both an XP machine and a Vista machine here. I got the cifs share running pretty quickly and would guess that I could help you there. I also have nfs running, but I don't actually "own" the NFS Server software, so it only runs for about 30 minutes at a time. Please feel free to email me at maccpl@yahoo.com if you would like a little one-on-one help.

    Cheers,
    JR

Yeah I've also found a NFS Server software but I think it would just be annoying to get up each 30 minutes in a movie, and fix it. Here's a guide for what it's worth(it's a free way): http://www.networkedmediatank.com/showthread.php?tid=1434. However I can't use it as I get a blue screen of death when it are near the end (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

I've found another solution, called nfsAxe. I thought, if we scoop up 100+ users who wants it we can actually buy a license for each one for almost half the price($40 for one, $24 for 100+ users). So, would there be interest in this? Here's the page: http://www.labf.com/nfsaxe/index.html

So did you ever get your shares working on the wdtv??

and what software do you want, I may have a copy here or I can find it for you, no need to buy any software, it's all on the net somewhere...

No, I haven't looked into that yet. The software is called "nfsAxe", I didn't found it on any torrent site. I cannot use the free method involving microsoft stuff, I get a blue screen of death at the end of the install (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

EDIT: Nevermind, found a software called Hanewin NFS Server which i found a keygen for.

I checked out most of the NFS Servers out there and had great trouble getting most of them to run properly. Of course I got jerked around a lot by Microsoft because I thought their server software was available of XP Home or Vista Home Premium... NOT! I finally ended up the same place you did with NFSaxe. The server works like a charm and I plan to buy it after the trial runs out. I also discovered that NFSPro is the same software that is distributed by a company in the US instead of Finnland. But I have to admit the package from NFSaxe looks like it has a lot more tools in it.

The offer to help still stands ofn cifs and as I said I managed to get NFS file sharing to work also using NFSaxe.

    Cheers,
    JR

Net.mounts(stripped out all comments and stuff):
    CODE
    xmount 192.168.1.71:/elements elements nfs udp,rsize=32768,wsize=32768

    EDIT:
I report epic success, after this new update, I got it working. Thank you everyone, now off to make a LAN guide(hopefully up by tommorow)!

have you tried starting with just

    QUOTE
    xmount 192.168.1.71:/elements elements nfs

until you get connection, then add the other parameters?

do you have any cifs shares working? easier to start with them, nfs is a huge PITA to get working.
I gave up after many hours of configuring and huge amounts of beer consumption.
