I have an external hard drive hooked directly to the WDTV SMP via the USB port so this is not a network issue. If I have the media library turned on and filters set to folders, the unit indicates 40 odd video files but can't seem to find them. It sees the top level folder but says there are no media files there. If I switch the filter to all, all of the video files display. Or, if I turn off the media library, it seems to work well with folders.

I've tried to find this in other messages but they all seem to relate to networked files and drives.

Is there some way to make use of folders while using media library?

Try deleting the (possibly hidden) .WD_TV folder on your USB HDD, then let the Media Library recompile the database completely before attempting to access your files. Hopefully it'll help.

I have to say I was skeptical. I was sure I had tried that. But I found 2 of these folders, one empty and and one with a little content. Deleted them both and re-enabled media library and everything seems to work.

    Thank you

Glad it worked out. Since I don't own the SMP, for future reference can you recall the exact names of both folders?

I'm pretty sure they were both .wd_tv but one was in the top level directory and the other was two levels down in
    \\wdtvlive\Seagate\Registration

The second one was empty and only the top level one was recreated when I turned the library back on.

Thanks, and yeah, the top-level dir's the only one I've ever seen.

Out of curiosity, what does your HDD icon look like within media library? I have custom icons for my network shares (just folder.jpgs in each folder), but for some reason USB storage doesn't work the same way. I have to go down an extra level on the HDD. If media library didn't just automatically include local storage, but let you select it as you do network shares, it wouldn't be a problem - I'd just navigate to the folder and do Options/Add to media library. Irritating...
