Hi, I'm not an english native, so I will try to do my best.
I have the 2nd Gen of WD tv HD and I just updated it to the last version. Recently, while playing some MKV movies in 1080p/23.976Hz mode I noticed that the sound (optical and dolby digital(AC3)) was running like half a second before the video. I haven't noticed that neither with movies in M2TS format nor on MKVs running DTS audio. Please, can anyone tell me what's going on? I suspect it may have to do either with the 23.976 mode or AC3 audio in MKV's, but I'm runnig out of ideas. Thank you! ps: I have a 46" 200Hz Bravia Via HDMI 1.3 and optical audio through a Bravia home theater system |

Similar sync issues have plagued both the 2nd Gen. and Live for some time now. I'm not sure whether the recent FW releases for the Live have fixed this or not, but since the 2nd Gen. is running behind in terms of FW releases, it's quite possible the problem persists with this model.
Also try changing the output mode under Settings. The sync issue could also be due to playing PAL video on an NTSC device or vice versa. |

The movies I play are in PAL format, the same format my deviced is set to (Spain). Anyway, when I try to set it to NTSC format, it doesn't let me do it, though my TV supports it.
Do you know if there is any other firmware release planned? Its incredible that older devices have better charaterisitics than newest. Than you! |

Do you know if there is any other firmware release planned? Nope, sorry. WD's extremely reticent when it comes to releasing advance info. regarding upcoming hardware/software releases, even to their own resellers, as witnessed recently when everyone was caught off guard by the release of the Live Plus including WD's own channel partners. Its incredible that older devices have better charaterisitics than newest. Yeah well, not surprising really if you've used the devices for any length of time and know WD's track record with the same. Also, the Gen. 2 and Live use different Sigma chipsets for decoding compared to the Gen. 1, and though the newer chipset is supposed to be far better in all respects, well... However, I'd bet that most of the problems plaguing the Gen. 2 and Live are not due to the different chipset but simply due to bad firmware and quality control at WD. |
