Let me start by saying: when I say I know NOTHING about networking, I do mean nothing. So please bear with me.

I've just bought a WDTV Live hub and I'm currently in the process of copying all my music, movies and photo's from my pc to it. The problem is it is taking absolutely ages. The first movie I transfered was a 700mb AVI and it took just over 15 mins. At this rate it'll take about 2 weeks to transfer all my media files.

So the question is: Have I got my home network setup correctly? (by network I just mean: my pc - my router - wdtv live hub).

I've heard of Gigabit ethernet (I assume this is supposed to be faster) which my pc has. I've read somewhere that the WDTV live hub has gigabit ethernet. And my router (BT home hub 3) has one gigabit ethernet port (which my pc is connected to. The WDTV live hub is connected to one of the other 3 standard ports).

So with my setup being so, does the transfer speed seem right? If gigabit is faster, why would my router only have ONE gigabit port? Seems a bit pointless to me...

There. I did warn you I was stupid when it comes to networking.

    Any ideas folks?

Thanks in advance for any help I may receive.

    Sota.
