Getting DTS to work without converting. Options

I would just like to say hear guys i have very little experience in this and need all the help i can get so be as specific as you can please (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I have lots of MKV's with DTS audio and i have a WD HD media player 2nd gen as far as i'm aware and i want to be able to play the mkv's with dts(or anything else for that matter) without having to convert the bloody thing first.

As far as i've read i need a toslink and a dts decoder with some speaker or in other words a surround sound with dts decoding. I just need to know if this surround sound would work with the media player and if it does exactly what to do please (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

specs are there, it says it has a dts decoder and a few others as well as Digital Input 1 (Optical), i asume thats whats needed, any help what so ever is appriciated.

its possible set up this device to play audio stream downmixed to stereo PCM if i play MKV with ac3 or DTS stream? i have only stereo amplifier and DAC. in menu is option STEREO/DIGITAL. if i set DIGITAL, then dts strem is pass trough optcal and i need receiver with ac3/dts decoder. and if i se STEREO? is stereo signal present on toslink?
