    Hi All!

My idea is to have any kind of protection for an specific folder, that it would ask, like a password to see the contents, like terror movies, porno, etc...

I was reading the material and I could not find how to do that.

    regards,

    Ricardo Moreira - Brazil

It's a good idea, makes sense, although quite difficult to do I can imagine.

Why? For all we know, might not be that difficult to implement after all. Why make things easy for WD and give them a ready-made excuse that "this is too difficult and so we won't do it"?

IMO it's high time they at least had the damn courtesy to tell their users, who believed in their 1st Gen. product and shelled out good money for it, whether or not they're ever going to release any new FW for it at all. People have asked this umpteen times on the official forum, and all they've got in response has been a stony silence. If this box has reached the end of its support lifecycle, don't we deserve to know, rather than be kept in the dark hoping against hope for a FW that'll never come? After all, if Microsoft can state clearly that XP's primary support phase is over and that extended support will also end around 2014, why the heck can't WD do something similar? Or are their development schedules so damn mixed up that even they don't know if and when another FW release will ever take place this century? (Actually, I am quite inclined to believe that this is indeed the case considering how well their previous FW releases have gone for the Live etc.)

would anyone fully trust that?? I sure as hell wouldn't!!

if you have porn, keep it on a separate drive if you have kids ffs.

better yet, keep all the kids stuff separate. buy another drive, taking that kind of chance would be anything but smart.

I'm very new to this forum but one of the answers I got has given me the impression that it's futile asking for any improvements via software update to the first gen model, am I right to think that?

No need to apologise, swiss2008. I guess my frustration with WD spilt out a bit in that rant there, eh? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Still, I would say your assumption is mostly correct. Personally, I would be really happy if they did continue to support the 1st Gen. player instead of abandoning it, but seems like we're not going to see any more FW updates for it. I mean, if ever there was a chance of it, why can't WD simply say that yes, we will release something, but cannot say when. At least then we can wait. What's extremely frustrating is that they don't even have the basic decency to confirm whether there will be any more FW updates or not. So their silence makes me believe the answer is in the negative. If anyone else has info. to refute my assumption, kindly post here.

If you want to try posting re. this issue in the official forum swiss2008, feel free to do so (and let us know the link to your post too). Who knows? A miracle might happen and WD might actually respond to your post for some unknown reason. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) BTW, check out what others have posted on the official forum re. this issue, such as for example this thread. Then maybe you'll understand why all 1st Gen. owners are mostly pi**ed off with WD.

P.S. Seems even b-rad's out of ideas re. WDLXTV, since he too is now focussing only on developing WDLXTV-Live and WDLXTV-G2. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)
