With proper 3rd party hardware support, this might be a real game-changer, folks!

Read more about it here and here.

With this new Intel Atom 4100 Processor there should be plenty of horsepower in these new set top boxes. It supposedly is capable of streaming 2 1080 HD streams at once as well as 3D and, it can capture a 1080 stream for recording.

I thought, since Sony was on board with this that the PS3 would be a natural device to use as a STB but, if it's required to run the Android OS that sort of kills that idea.

I'm always interested in seeing what Google will come out with next. I'm a huge fan of their phones already. The Droid kicks ass.

You're absolutely right Mike, the processor made this sound like a really interesting proposition indeed. Provided we have good firmware on these devices, this can turn out to be a massive seller. The right sort of implementation is so important though, since we've already seen with WD how shoddy FW quality control can mess with hardware that should be easily capable of performing much better than it does.

There's just one point of concern for me though, and that is Google's increasing tendency to invade our privacy and keep tabs on our habits, be it browsing, purchasing online, or via their Street View cars snooping on us in real life or capturing/storing our WiFi data packets etc. I'd keep far away from these devices if they're gonna "phone home" and start reporting even our TV-watching habits now to Google or the device manufacturer.
