I tried a USB 2.0 hub that I have and it did not work. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif)

So I went out and bought a powered USB 2.0 hub after reading people claim that they can get USB hubs to work.
Tried the powered USB hub and it still did not work.

I have 2 1TB hard drives, filled with my DVD collection. The problem is they are both full already, so I need to add another drive.
With only 2 USB ports on the device this is not possible without a hub.

I have roughly 440 uncompressed movies ripped straight from DVD (as ISO files). The setup works awesome!
My whole movie collection is availible "on-demand".
When I hook up the drives through the hub, it never sees more than 236 movies.
So it seems to see some movies from each drive, but not all.

This is even after a reboot of the device for a clean re-index of all USB content.
Is there any way people have got this to work?

What can I do here, any ideas? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

    Hub brands:
Unpowered USB 2.0 4 port hub = Targus
    Powered USB 2.0 4 port hub = i-Rocks

    Thanks guys!

I am using hacked firmware and have no problems using a 4 port d-link powered usb hub.
in it is the network adapter, my 1TB hdd and the 1GB thumb drive with zoranders firmware and applications.
I also have a hard drive dock I plug into it sometimes, it works too, as do the 2 usb ports in the front of it..

this usb hub quit working in my PC, I tried it on a whim before calling d-link for a replacement, no need as it is fine apparently. the port in my pc just doesn't like it anymore..

My UN-powered (can be powered) USB hub works like a charm, btw this hub is a noname hub bought at London Drugs. Mind you I dont have quite the archive you have connected. This is what I have... WD TV USB 2 (back usb) USB Hub with 500GB Passport, 16GB Kingston Thumbdrive, USB Ethernet Adapter. WD TV USB 1, 2GB thumbdrive that contains the hacked firmware and stays plugged in always.

I wish I could give you an answer to your troubles with your hub but I have yet to run into anything like this. I guess youve tried ejected the drives and plugging them back into the WD TV, have you tried plugging one drive in at a time and see what it doesnt and what it does read? Did you give ample time for the drive to be read?

What I am noticing is that although it will index both drives, it only displays the movies from the drive plugged into the lowest port.

So if there is a drive plugged into port 1 and 2, I only see movies on port 1.
If they are plugged into port 2 and 3 on the hub I only see movies on port 2.

What is the hacked firmware and where can I get it?

Thanks for the quick response guys!

    update.

I have installed the hacked firmware, it did not make a difference.
I can browse all movies through folders, but only see the movies on disk 1 in the video view.
Starting to piss me off. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

    Edit:
Search only finds things on drive 1 also.
Both drives are NTFS (they need to be to hold the greater than 4GB file sizes).
Yes, I have tried multiple times to eject and re-add the drives.

What am I missing? Has anyone tried this with so many files of large size?

One more question for the people that have the USB hub working.

Your "view all movies" works as well?
For me it does not work. I can see movies if I view folders and browse to the drive etc..., but that is a pain.

What brand hub are you guys using?

I have seen other forums with posts where people are having the same problem as me.

    Hi vwpowr,

I have always used a LOGiiX USB Hub with no problems, although like I said previous I dont have as many films as you have achieved on your disk(s). I might have 30 movies at any given time on my whole setup and I get no problems. It might be your achieve is way to big for the WD TV or your USB Hub to recognize it all. I dont even need to use the power on my USB Hub and it works flawlessly.

This is the hub I currently use > LOGiiX

And yes view all movies works fine for me as well.

Hope you get this figured out I can understand your frustration, please keep us posted on your findings.

    Cheers!

With the 30 movies you had, were they split among different drives plugged into the hub? or all on the same drive?
If they were and you could see them all in the "all videos" view that sucks bad for me.

And you are on the most recent version of the hacked firmware?

I wonder if some hubs don't allow the see all videos to work for some reason.

Still can't get any of my hubs to work!
This is driving me nuts, I wish someone else with a lot of files could try this too.

It is a shame that these forums are not busy, this place is a wealth of useful information.

Yes it is a shame these forums are not that busy, but at least we have really tried to help you out with your problem. Have you tried to downscale the amount of media you have achieved on the drives? My collections is growing and I have yet run into the same problems youre having.

My collection is growing and I have already maxed out both 1TB drives plugged into the player.
It is a royal pain in the butt to have to copy movies from my PC to a flash drive to play it.

I like having the whole collection set up as an "on-demand" movie player.
The media library not supporting a USB hub is just rediculous.

I might just suck it up and buy another hub that I know is working for other people.
I like everything else about the WD player I'd hate to have to get something else.

What troubles me, is that I read on avs forums that a couple people were using USB hubs then that functionality broke when they upgraded firmware.

Just so everyone knows, apparently it is an official bug.
Not sure how some are managing to get media library to work on newer firmwares.

BUG v1.02.04 content on drives via USB hub isn't aggregated any more
    « on: April 15, 2009, 02:50:49 AM »

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I know USB hubs are not officially supported but they tend to work, and people tend to appreciate them.

people have reported that under 1.01.x, the content aggregation (e.g. "ALL videos") works fine and shows all files from all attached drives on the hub.

It's been reported that with 1.02.04 (and probably other 1.02.x) this doesn't work anymore.

See for instance this post: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread....t=#post16261137

the usb 2.0 hub is from lexma and its model usg , s/n L08A13471 , so if you could find that at any location , maybe walmart , it should work fine . i paid 10 cdn for it , with 4 ports .

    hope that helps

    YES!

Today I successfully connected a Cyberpower CP-H420P 4-port USB hub to my WD TV & it worked flawlessly. I plugged 2 drives into the hub & both showed up and the files played just fine.

The firmware I'm using is version 1.01.02.

The Cyberpower CP-H420P hub is available on newegg.com for $17.99, here.

Cyberpower also makes a 7-port hub for around $44 here. While I haven't tried it yet, theoretically, you could plug two of those into the WD TV & if it worked out, get a whopping 14 ports for connecting drives. That would be pretty awesome!

    Cheers,
    Bobbo :-)
