i just upgraded to the latest 1.03 firmware and now it takes AGES for it to scan my 60 gig external drive...is this normal?

How long does it take your WDTV to scan your drive??

formatted in ntfs by the way.

Scanning time depends upon many factors, such as drive size and speed, how full it is, how many sub-folders and files it has etc. Personally I didn't experience any slowdown after updating the FW.

You can try deleting the .WD_TV media library database folder from your drive. Then do a thorough disk check using your PC, connect the drive, let it be scanned completely and only then access it. Also be sure to always safely remove the drive, even if you plan to power down the player via remote for a short while. I always do and it keeps my precious data safe from corruption.
