MKV files stopped working all of a sudden Options

Hi all,

I downloaded some new films this weekend and sat down last might thinking that I could spend a few hours watching them but when I click on the file the screen is just going black and doesn't do anything - has anyone experienced anything like this before?

I can still view phots on it ok and play all of my music but the .mkv files that I could playback previously aren't working - this put a right downer on my evening as I just had top resort to watching them on my laptop.

Anyone got any suggestions? I have even tried a factory reset on the wdtv and this didn't make any difference either - have the files maybe become corrupt in some way?

I'm not using the "live" version of the wdtv -it's either the 1st or 2nd gen

@sam: You're most probably confusing your issue with Dale's. In his case, if the problem was with header compression, the screen wouldn't go blank; instead he'd only have no audio. You try the fix and discuss it in the appropriate topic here if you have any more issues.

@Dale: If you're still confused over whether you have a 1st or 2nd Gen. WD TV, you can use the first link in my sig below to confirm. As for your issue, do older MKVs that you know for sure worked, can you confirm that they have no video now as well?

Also, which firmware version do you have installed (check the About screen under Settings)? How is the player connected to the TV? Do you have an external receiver as well? If so, how is that connected to the player?
