i am using a 8gb kingston usb for months but suddenly the above message popped when i opened
    wd tv.
i tried formating the usb device but nothing.
only when i turn off media library i can see the files.
moreover if i unplug the wdtv and turn it on, it has no problem playing the files although media player is on but if i
turn off and then on from the remote, the same message pops up(unable to create media library on read only storage).

    why??

i am using b-rad's latest firmware for gen2

Delete the .WD_TV folder from the drive and also run a complete disk check.

Do you eject the drive before turning the player off via the remote? Also, is the drive kept plugged in when you turn it back on again via the remote? I suggest ejecting and physically removing the drive every time you're done with it, then plugging in as required. See if that helps.

i deleted the wd_tv folder , scanned the flash disk for problems (no probs) and connected it to wd tv --> same prob.
then i unplugged wdtv without ejecting the flash disk and when i turned it on everything worked fine.
i ejected the drive via the remote and when i connected it again the same problem occured...
even when i reset settings to default first time it worked but when i ejected and then connected the drive same prob...

Must be something the matter with the drive then. FWIW, my 16GB Kingston DataTraveler works fine, and of course all my larger external HDDs are ok as well.

unable to create media library on read only storage

why would you expect to be able to create any file on read only media? read only is just that, you can't write to it or create new files on it.

you have a problem with your media, plain and simple.

the good thing s that it can see the files with media library off but i'm curious why after 6 months this prob occured

Flash drives, just like other drives, are known to fail after a certain number of write/erase cycles, which of course differs depending upon the quality of flash memory used. Did you try with another drive (preferably new) to see if it behaves the same way? Unless you do that, how can you know if it's the players fault?
