    Hello,

I have been using my WDTV Live for about 6 months now, working fine no problems. All of a sudden, yesterday when I tried to access my network shares, I get the invalid username or password prompt. Nothing on my computer changed at all. I've tried everything to fix this and can't figure it out. Is there anyone out there that has had this problem and knows a fix?

Thanks for any advice or help in advance.

Sadly i've got exactly the same problem (Windows 7 64 bit home premium)...

Maybe it has something to do with a recent Windows update ?

Still trying to figure it out.

In case you've installed the latest version of Windows Live Essentials, try uninstalling the same.

I'm sure you can uninstall it long enough to test / troubleshoot the wdtv network problem, if not it's unlikely we can help you if you aren't willing to try helping yourself..

Yeah... you're right... I know you're trying to help.

It's not like I'm desparate for it to work because there are other options like using a dnla client, but it would be nice if the shares work again (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) . The reason I 'need' messenger installed is because I use it to stay in touch with my collegue's when I work from home. But since I only work from home on friday's I don't see why I can't uninstall it to do some tests in the mean time.

I'll uninstall it to test if it solves the problem and hope to have an answer as soon as possible I hope tonight but otherwise tuesday evening (GMT).

I had the same problem and it is solved now.
    Install "Live" but
    1. Uninstall a "Microsoft Office Live Add-in" from Programs
    2. Uninstall a "Windows Live Sign-in Assistance" from Programs and reboot
    (Service "wlidsvc" must NOT run)

@Alioth: Yup, the Sign-In Assistant is known to cause issues, as mentioned in this pinned topic. Without that Assistant (and service as you mentioned) and sticking to the older version of Live Essentials (since 2011 causes problems connecting to file shares as mentioned here), it should still be possible to use both Messenger and successfully network the WD TV Live at the same time.

P.S. WD TV LIve, Windows Live - why can't they think of some better and more unique names? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)
