Music player won't play .ogg files? Options

Hello there.

I wonder if somebody can help - I have some multichannel .ogg files I really, really want to play through my WD TV gen 1(w/ last firmware)- but for some reason the WD TV music player simply skips through the entire folder of files, without playing one of them. They play fine on the PC using VLC.

Hopefully somebody can help - not sure what other info I can supply to enable somebody to help me figure it out, but I'm standing by if anybody has any ideas...

I was under the impression that I might be able to get advice here?
I was also under the impression that WD TV should be able to play .ogg files.

Running a 15 meter digital cable from my PC to the system I wish to listen to the .ogg files on is not an option, if that was your intended advice...

Other than confirming that the files are possibly ok (software players could very well be more tolerant of faults compared to a hardware player such as the WD TV), how else does that piece of info. help?

The Gen. 1 ought to be able to play OGG Vorbis audio files. Check your files with MediaInfo and see what's contained inside.

I checked the files with Mediainfo, and all seem fine - format is ogg, 48khz, the bitrates etc - nothing that would suggest they're not what they claim to be, and nothing to suggest they're broken.

They play fine on other media players on my pc too.

How does this help? How the hell would I know - I'm here for advice, and wanted to give as much info as I could about an issue with which not much info could be gleaned.

The reason we roll our eyes is that you'd be surprised just how many times we read complaints such as - "but it plays fine on my PC using VLC etc., so why not on the WD TV?" These players have nothing in common with software players, but guess most people fail to appreciate the difference.

As for your files, seems they should play according to the limited info. in the manual at least. Try playing 44.1 KHz OGGs, and if those don't work as well, maybe you can try contacting WD Support.

It seems obvious to me, the reason you roll your eyes is because you get a fake sense of superiority over it. Especially the first idiot who did it: no text at all: just an insult - and you call yourselves moderators. Of a forum theoretically about helping people out.
If you actually want to help people, who don't know as much about this stuff as you geniuses, then I suggest the use of basic manners, and having a clue that we are not all equal when it comes to knowledge.

As for your suggestion: I have tried that.
I haver also tried reseting the unit etc.

Given the lack of responses, and just plain pathetic ones, I can only come to the conclusion that the WDTV just doesn't play .ogg as specified.

No need to respond: I'll go elsewhere if I ever need help with my WDTV again - as I'm sure many others do when greeted with such nonsense.

ps: you might want to get a basic understanding of 'complaint', vs, 'advice being sought'.

if you had any real clue about how to post for help, you may have gotten it.

the only thing you said was it wont play multichannel .ogg files and vlc player will. so what, software vs. hardware player and is irrelevant

when WDUser suggested you check them with mediainfo, you should have posted the info, first, it shows you actually took an interest in finding a solution, secondly, someone who is familiar with what the player will play and wont, could have given input to help you

since you choose the lazy route, good luck to you, don't let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya!

you think we as enthusiasts have an unlimited amount of time to hold your hand through your problem?
any problems I have had I troubleshot what I thought the issue was, used GOOGLE and then asked specific questions, you'd be surprised how willing people are to help when you did more than scratch your balls and shrug your shoulders...
