Interesting, though of course the FW will make or break this device as usual. Guess it's time for Live owners to think about upgrading, since they've now fallen 2 generations behind... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)
Edit: Here are the 3 models available based on the HDD size: http://wdc.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/wdc.cfg/ph...hp?p_faqid=5744 |

I still love my WD Live and not having any real issues with it either. Since I have all of my media files set up on a Win Home Server system with 2.5Tbs of storage this Media Center I might take a pass on.
I would really like built in Netflix support but Playon works fine not to mention, I upgraded a TV with a new Vizio LED that has Netflix built in so it's not even that important now. Some reviews I read make it sound like this model is noisy, or maybe noisy compared to our older units with no fans built in. Is it just me or does anyone else find Blockbuster support odd? Blockbuster's going out of business every other week. Would have been cool to have had Vudu support built in instead. |

I've got one and it's not noisy at all so far. I've had it a couple of weeks so far and use it pretty much daily. The one drawback in my opinion about the live hub is how slow it is to copy to the internal hardrive. It's achingly slow. Other than that I love it so far. I agree about the blockbuster support though. They should've jumped on the netflix bandwagon looooong ago and now they're trying to play catch up. I think it's a little too late for them to make any headway into that market unless they pretty much start copying netflix, but offer lower pricing or something. I think we will see other support such as vudu through firmware updates in the future (that's my hope atleast!). I think the live hub is a pretty good deal if you don't already own a wdtv/wdtv live/wdtv live plus.

I'm thinking about getting one of these. I already have a Live and I'll replace that with this and put the Live upstairs to network down to this one in my theater. I was planning on just getting another drive for more storage, but for the price I might as well get this.

I just bought myself one for Christmas and am very happy with it so far. I have owned a gen 1 version of live media player(given to my daughter and her family), I have a fairly new WD TV Live Plus media player stashed at my vacation home and now this wonderful media hub. My needs are simple and this device so far does everything that I have a need for.
This media hub replaces a home built media server that I made from an old PC. My whole video/audio/photo collection transferred to the new media hub flawlessly but it took over night to preform the full transfer. Yes the copy times are really slow but I did not sit and watch it. I just went to bed. |
