Anyone else have this problem. After i load new files on my external harddrive and plug it into the wdtv i have to go into setup and do a system reset for the wdtv to recognize my new folders on my external hdd. Is there a fix for this?

I havent run into this kind of problem. Although when I add some new thumbnails for a movie then i have to reset the wdtv in order for them to appear. What kind of external drive are you using? Do you properly eject the drive before you pull out the usb cable? Also what format are the movies?

i use a wd mybook 500 gb hdd. movies are all in divx format or xvid format. And I also eject the hdd properly from the wdtv. Whats weird is that in the beginning it didn't do that and then all of a sudden one day it started to do that.

To me it sounds like that could be a problem with the drive, just a guess. I found a few problems with the wd passport drive but that was due to not ejecting it properly from the wdtv. But youre using the mybook with its own power source which i found to be not as touchy as the passport. Have you tried the firmware updates?

I wish I could be more of a help but I have yet to run into the same problem youre having.

every time you add or delete things from your hard drive, be sure to delete the .wd folder from it.
that is the catalog of what's available, if it isn't there, it will rescan and recreate it for you.

Thanks Drew, never knew that file even existed until now. And here I thought it was a caching problem so I would always unplug and replug the wdtv.

That's not an official answer (that I know of..), it is something I discovered a while back.

I don't know if you are supposed to or not, but to me it makes sense, no catalog, it scans and creates one, just like hooking up a new drive every time.

I can't see it hurting anything, it just does it's thing and away you go!

I would be interested in hearing about others doing this and their results as well..

    Cheers!

    Hey Drew,

I just finished using that technique and it seemed to work and why wouldn't it? Anyhow if you delete that folder its rebuilt as soon as you plug into the wdtv. But it did seem to clear the system of any kind of cache it was holding onto and up popped all the thumbs i just created.
