    From WD:

At this time, WD does not support using any single USB drive larger than 2 TB on any of our WD TV line of products. We have found that doing so may cause data corruption or damage to the partition. However, our dual drives and network products larger than 2 TB are not affected by this issue and can continue to be used with our WD TV product line.

For more information on this issue, please see our Knowledge Base Answer 5875.

The following WD products are affected by this notice*:

    WD TV Live Media Player
WD TV Live Hub Media Player
WD TV Live Plus HD Media Player
My Book Essential Edition 3 TB Hard Drives (WDBACW0030HBK)

    * Please note the list above is only for WD products. If you use a WD TV Live product with a non-WD USB drive larger than 2 TB, your USB drive may also be affected.

Note: Issue has now been resolved (see below for more). Obviously, the older models have not and will not receive the fix.

    As per WD yesterday:

    QUOTE
This has been fixed in firmware in testing.

No idea though on when the fix will be rolled out to the general public, or indeed which FW version it is likely to be included in. But at least there's some good news for those with >2 TB HDDs that have hitherto been unusable with these players.
