WDHDTV, No Storage Present Options

Hi

I am so hoping someone here has the knowledge! I am new here.

I have a 1TB HD, NTFS with MKV movie files converted using DVDFAB under Windows XP. These are my last attempt in trying to get WD to work.

things I have tried that did not work:
Soft reset on WD box
Hard reset on WD box (since the heard reset, box is defaulted to NTSC and does not give me any option to change back to PAL)
Check firmware on WD box which is 1.03.01
Used Mac OS X 10.6.5 reformatted HD to unjournaled as required
Used Mac OS X 10.6.5 reformatted HD to exfat
Converted dvd to VOB files
Converted dvd to Mp4 files
Converted dvd to Mpeg 1 files
Converted dvd to Mpeg 1 files

The HD drive read perfectly fine on both my macs and windows systems. I tried a USB stick and WD box recognised that in an instant and was able to show pics etc.

All these have taken me to days with no positive results, I am about to discard the WD and buy an Apple TV! But thought I will seek some expert advice first before I spend any more money on this.

Is it a NAS? A brand-name external drive? Or just an internal you plugged into any old enclosure? How big is the drive? Is it USB-powered?

If there's not too much data, you can try the solution mentioned here.

As for the hard reset button, read the manual to know how long to keep it pressed to switch between NTSC and PAL.

Thank you very much, It is a brand name external drive with mains power. It only had one film in it for testing.

Since my posting, I found out I could still return the box after having it for a year, so I have since taken it back to Costco and got a full refund.

I am going to invest in an Apple TV instead. Will do some research as to how to access a film database through streaming via itune first.

If it worked, it would have been a better player. Once bitten twice shy! Can't be sure, if I should go buy another one. Maybe WD Live this time?

spend your money the way you want to, nobody wants any bad feelings if it isn't the right choice for you.

I just think for the price these WD media players are hard to beat, especially with the custom firmware

the original WDTV is a bit dated now and custom firmware (like WD firmware) has pretty much reached end of life..
best advice would be to realize what you want from a media player and do research, lots of research..

Christine STOP before you return anything and end up with an Apple TV that will do nothing for you except play Apple iTunes contents in 720p. First of all lets try something.... Eject and unplug the drive connected to the WDTV, Pull the plug from the back of the WDTV, Now wait a few seconds then plug the power back into the WDTV, let the UI load before you do anything. Once the UI has loaded plug your external drive into the WDTV and see if the USB light starts to flash. Now what do you end up with? Also on a side note you can run a Journaled drive on the WDTV just fine, I do it and have been for the past couple of years. Have you tried to load that video clip onto the thumb drive where you where able to access the pictures? It might be the video file itself thats effecting the WDTV.
