    Hi Folks...

I’m using this awesome piece quite a long period... I’m really amazed the quality that I get from the unique device especially when I play Bluray files. BTW I own a WD TV Gen 1 ( WDAVP00BE-Europe version, FW is WDTV_1_03_01) and its connected to my LCD and an AVR. I use TosLink Optical cable for audio to my AVR and HDMI to TV. This is the set up. N here are some of my problems...

1: I couldn't get audio on DVD9 files which is Copied on my WD external HDD. The Intro, Menu goes fine with audio... But the first File of the Film (Lets say VTS 03_01) goes blank on audio. And showing "NO AUDIO CHANNEL" .I thought it’s the problem with the file.. But it remains same for many DVD9 copies, which is working fine on my PC. From 2nd File onwards... the audio is nice and clear....whether it’s DTS/Dolby.... My AVR detects all formats and plays...

2: When I connect WD to AVR over HDMI; WD remote got stuck... No other option than the Power button is working… Later I assumed that the problem is AVR’s remote overriding WD’s functions. So I change the connection method; HDMI only for Video directly to TV and TosLink to AVR for Audio. So the problem solved. But I Think the upscale function in AVR is quite better than in TV. So is there any chance to get it connected to the AVR without any problem. BTW I own Onkyo AVR with 1.4a HDMI and DTS HD/Dolby True HD decoders.

    Any suggestions will be appreciated.

    Thanx

    1. That's strange. I'm sure you've set Audio output to Digital, right? How did you rip the DVD? Use AnyDVD and see. Also, are you playing VOBs or an ISO? Try both. You can also try running MakeMKV on the DVD and see if the MKV plays. That's what I use for ripping all my DVDs.

    2. The 1st Gen. WD TV only supports HDMI 1.2 IIRC, so it may be an issue with the handshake between the devices. If your receiver doesn't have a problem with this, try a couple of different HDMI cables and see.

    Thanx for the Reply buddy....

1: Yeah... I've set the Audio to Digital... Actually its a whole bunch of DVD9 files from Net... all VOBs only.. downloaded to External Drive and connected to WD. But its okey on my PC. Most of them got 2 Audio channels like Dolby/DTS where i can select these on the DVD menu. when its on VLC player i could see these audio channels... but on WD its not... I've gone to the Audio Channel option and its showing "No Audio Channel". MKV is fine... i'Ve got a bunch of MKV Files especially BluRay Rips; everything plays great... and i believe the main feature of WD is the support of MKV files; where even PS3 doesn't..
2: Yeah.. I've bought this WD quite a long back. that time this was the only model available, i guess. I'll try on switching between HDMI Cables... Thanx for the look....

n one more humble suggestion... Why we are not getting a "JUMP Time" option on the Remote( Ultra Faster Forward/Backward) just like Jumping 2-3 minutes on each click... the RIGHT/LEFT Navigation button can be used for that... If the power is been off the memory will be washed where the timecode of the stopped movie is saved, AFAIK... that option will be great some one like me who wants to watch movie part by part.. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

    thanx for the thought ...

10 minute skip: Press Fast Forward/Reverse on the remote and then Next/Prev to skip forwards or backwards 10 minutes at a time. There is no "jump to specific time" feature on any of these models, although that would have been fantastic.

Since you own a Gen. 1 that can't display DVD menus and only has basic VOB playback support, I fail to understand why the first VOB doesn't have sound always. To the player, one VOB should be the same as any other, since it has no support for the DVD structure as such.

Try renaming the files as Movie_1.vob, Movie_2.vob and see if it makes any difference? Since the player has no DTS support, no audio probably means an issue with your receiver. Try sorting out connectivity to your receiver via HDMI and see if that fixes the problem.

    Thanx for the reply mate....

If problem is with the receiver, on WD its should be shown something AUDIO DIGITAL: ENGLISH1 like other Clips no....? it was "No Audio Channel".

But if i connect the HDMI to AVR ... remote function wont be accessible... Lemme try once again.....

    Thanx

Can you run MediaInfo on any VOB that is soundless on the WD TV, and paste the text format report here?

Have you tried the file on your computer? Mediainfo says the audio tracks are two seconds each.

And the audio tracks each last longer than 2s? The tracks are clearly being detected as only 2s or so in length, and a few 100 KB in size. So sounds like a bad rip to me, or maybe some sort of corruption that a software player is able to overcome but not the WD.

May be that's the problem... and i tried to MUX it.. The output file is 6GB in size and there is no video on that when i play into WD; on PC its like 3 different window in which one Menu, one Into, and one Start of the Movie are playing on each "YUV-DirectX" window. what are the files i should take from a DVD9 folder for Muxing?? i think this is because i used all files including Menu and all... I hope i will get the lossless output on MKV as in source, while Muxing.

    Thanx

If you have a DVD you can use Handbrake to encode it, that should work out well: http://handbrake.fr/
You can also encode Blu-rays, if they're unprotected.

Thanx.... I'll definitely give a try with HandBrake. btw I got to encode downloaded VOBs of DVD9s & DVD5s. Hope it will work well with Menus and Intros. What happened with MKV is, when i MUX it i could have included the Menu File as well, thus it was included in the output of MKV with BGM. i could hear the BGM repeating as such in Menus.

Well the WDTV doesn't support menus so it makes not much sense to mux them in.
