    Hi All

Apologies for my first post being a whinge / problem.......... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

I have been using my WD player for over a year without trouble, however following my 1 year old son deciding to treat it like a basketball I am now having lots of trouble.

When I plug in the more full of the 2 hard drives (around half a gig of files are on it) the machine shows the round icon and says "scanning the attached usb device" contimually and very often freezes when i attempt to play something.

It similarly takes a longer time to scan the other less full usb drive i use and is prone to freezing when playing files on that too.

I have tried to do a firmware update but no icon appears when I plug in a usb key with the update (and only those files) on it.

Should I simply conceed defeat and buy a new one and if so what is the best one to go for on the basis that I want as little hassle as possible and am not terribly technology literate......

Many thanks for all your help!

    David

mine has acted the same way from day 1..
the only way I can get it to stop scanning is to go into the menu, turn off the media library and then turn it back on.
when I go back out into the main menu it stops scanning within seconds.

hope it works for you too.

But do you have to do that everytime you turn WDTV on?

    Thanks

I do but it's not a big deal to me, it only gets rebooted once a month or so unless there's new software I am testing on it.

I honestly though no-one used the media library feature anyway. For me it's way easier to navigate without it.

Well mine works fine, plus I keep the Media Library on 'cos I like the aggregated views.

Well mine works fine, plus I keep the Media Library on 'cos I like the aggregated views.

In the end, by this thread I figure it out why my ALL VIDEOS were not working.

I need to turn the media library off. Then it comes back alive. Sadly, no cover will appear with that.

So I am stucked with the thumb view (FOLDER).

    Cheers.

Ok I found the solution and I think it is good to be here in case someone else has the same problem:

"The solution is simple : create an empty file called .addMounts (mind the dot in front!) and place it in the root of your boot device."
