Hi All
Apologies for my first post being a whinge / problem.......... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) I have been using my WD player for over a year without trouble, however following my 1 year old son deciding to treat it like a basketball I am now having lots of trouble. When I plug in the more full of the 2 hard drives (around half a gig of files are on it) the machine shows the round icon and says "scanning the attached usb device" contimually and very often freezes when i attempt to play something. It similarly takes a longer time to scan the other less full usb drive i use and is prone to freezing when playing files on that too. I have tried to do a firmware update but no icon appears when I plug in a usb key with the update (and only those files) on it. Should I simply conceed defeat and buy a new one and if so what is the best one to go for on the basis that I want as little hassle as possible and am not terribly technology literate...... Many thanks for all your help! David |

mine has acted the same way from day 1..
the only way I can get it to stop scanning is to go into the menu, turn off the media library and then turn it back on. when I go back out into the main menu it stops scanning within seconds. hope it works for you too. |

But do you have to do that everytime you turn WDTV on? Thanks |

I do but it's not a big deal to me, it only gets rebooted once a month or so unless there's new software I am testing on it.

I honestly though no-one used the media library feature anyway. For me it's way easier to navigate without it.

Well mine works fine, plus I keep the Media Library on 'cos I like the aggregated views.

Well mine works fine, plus I keep the Media Library on 'cos I like the aggregated views. In the end, by this thread I figure it out why my ALL VIDEOS were not working. I need to turn the media library off. Then it comes back alive. Sadly, no cover will appear with that. So I am stucked with the thumb view (FOLDER). Cheers. |

Ok I found the solution and I think it is good to be here in case someone else has the same problem:
"The solution is simple : create an empty file called .addMounts (mind the dot in front!) and place it in the root of your boot device." |
