How to turn off WIFI adapter after power-off Options

Hey guys,

I have been using my WDTV v1 without any problems besides the slow remote response which i think is normal and got used to it but i would like to save some electricity money when i'm not using it.

The problem is after i watch my videos and press the red button on the remote the WDTV shuts down (or goes to standby) but the WIFI adapter plugged on the left USB port keeps blinking and stays connected to my wireless router, it seems it doesnt turn off at all. Is there any way to have the WIFI adapter turn off everytime i press the power button on the remote?

I edited S00custom-options with this line:

config_tool -c USB_POWER_OFF=1

and re-flashed the 1.03.01_B-RAD.CC_WDLXTV-0.5.8.1 firmware with the new S00custom-options but the adapter stays on. I think this option is only for the WDTV live media player and doesnt do anything for the WDTV v1.

I will appreciate if you know how to turn off the adapter after shutting down the player.

I think there's a hardware hack to turn off USB-power when "shutting down" the WDTV. When you shut it off it actually keeps on running, only difference is that all output is disabled and the video decoder as well. The CPU is still on(though its integrated on the same circuit as the decoder, so I guess it's running too). Easiest way to "fix" it would probably be to get some black electric tape and tape the LED, that's what I do on LEDs I think are annoying (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

the red "power" button only turns off the video output, it saves no electricity at all.

you want to save power when you're not watching it? pull the power adapter out of the wall socket, it wont run and the adapter wont be using ghost power.

I do believe that "config_tool -c USB_POWER_OFF=1" was added in later devices and does nothing for the original WDTV.
and if you do manage to turn off the USB ports, IF you have an attached device with net.config and net.mounts on it, your system will become unstable and you will likely have to reboot it to get proper functionality back anyway.. your wireless adapter wont work again until it reboots too..

Thanks for the advice. I will have to buy some kind of power switch because unplugging it from the wall is kind of hard, the socket is behind a big furniture.

No need to call me spammer, other forums allow signature links, i didn't know this one doesn't.
