    Hello All,
I am new to this forum. I currently use a PS3, but I am going to buy a new WDTV Live Plus. I have a cross platform environment, but I will be using a MAC and I wanted to know what is the best media server software I should get to go along with my new WDTV Live Plus?

    Thanks,
    Naicidrac

I was getting frustrated because it sometimes takes a while for it to connect to my PC.

This has nothing to do with your software [and TVersity sure won't speed the process up any]. Your WDTV will ALWAYS take a few moments to get an IP address from your router when you turn it on.

Having done the software-side myself when I was using GoVideo's D2740 to stream video, I don't recommend any of the server software available at this point. The solutions are ok, but completely unnecessary in this stage of the game. Why get software when you don't need it?

Me personally, I'm running Windows Home Server and have the server on 24x7 with 8TB of storage. Adding another 1TB drive or replacing one should it fail is only going to run me another $60. All my devices find WHS without any problems. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this route.

Having done a bunch of home streaming networks for friends, most don't like the server route for some reason. They usually end up getting an external hard drive and plugging it into the WDTV, which can be shared across the network, but in most cases they just end up unplugging the drive and moving it to wherever.

If you insist on using software, you have a myriad of choices:
