Digital Audio glitch? Options

So this is strange, all of a sudden my WD Live when in digital mode you can hear some of the background sound(like the music, cars honking, birds flapping..etc), but no voices when people talk. I'm running 0.4.7.3 base on 1.02.21, optical cable to a DTS Yamaha receiver and a 4TB hard drive. Now I tried switching hard drives(2TB) and I still get the same problem and if I put in it stereo mode, you can hear all the sounds, also I know my receiver still works, because when I’m watch my HD cable I'm getting surround sound. Do I need to redo the hack or is there another fix for this? TIA (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif)

I experienced the same problem. The center channel (which is mostly voice) gets drop now and then. Usally it happens to me when there is a loud sound change. To correct the problem, I turn my reciever off then back on.
Not sure what the actual cause but I hope someone can figure it out cause it's an annoyance to miss part of the movie.

I have encountered the same issue with a number of PAL titles available in Australia. I posted some information on the WD site regarding the issue; the post was removed by the moderator. Obviously WD are over sensitive about the issue.

There is nothing wrong with the Yamaha amplifier. The issue is with the WDTV Live box digital audio conversion. The audio information is contained in the IFO file structure. When the VOB files are played, the DSP chip in the Yamaha amplifier decodes the 5.1 / 7.1 audio differently to when it was complied.

The only thing I can suggest is to use the WDTV Live analogue stereo out and let the DSP chip in Yamaha amplifier decode the 5.1 / 7.1 audio.

I conducted a number of audio tests between the Toslink and the analogue stereo out. While the analogue stereo out is a lower level than Toslink the actual audio quality from the analogue stereo is better.

If you are only storing movies on a hard drive converting the movies to MPG (save the original) is a better option. There is a freeware version of VOB2MPG v3.0. Download the program and convert to MPG files. The conversion takes about 10 minutes per DVD.

Well after trying many things, swaping my optical cables, trying different hard drives and upgrading the firmware(which broke my hack) after reading many different post, it looks like I will have to downgrade my firmware to 1.02 to fix my problem. I'll let you know how it turns out.
@thepanoguy-all my movies worked before with no problems(PAL,NTSC,.MKV..etc)for the past 2 years that I've had my box, it just stopped playing the voices all of a sudden.

Ok, I finally found out what the problem was, after a week of messing around with it and my "duh" (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blush.gif) moment, it turns out that somehow my center channel speaker got unplugged, which of course disabled the "voices". After plugging it back it, all is well, aaahhhhhhh!!! Thanks for all the input and help, now I have to go and rehack it again...lol.

I also have the same issue with the centre channel being dropped. To correct I turned up the volume on the amp (Denon AVR-1913) until it comes back, then I can turn it down again and usually it's good to the end of the movie. I have changed HDMI inputs and even tried optical. Sometimes the sounds gets garbled, but most times the centre channel gets dropped. Have not found a cure for it.
