Can anyone tell me if defraging my external drives which i use only for playing films on with my wd media player will make any difference. I keep my PC defraged all the time and in top working order as im a avid gamer and i know defraging helps things run faster and smother. The only files on my externals are movie's MKVs.

If your external HDD is heavily fragmented (check with any good defrag tool such as Defraggler or MyDefrag), then yes, defragging it should make a difference and lower file access times. That's the purpose of defragging after all. Don't think playback will be affected all that much though, since the player anyway reads ahead and buffers during playback.
