I recently purchased a Samsung 42" Plasma and hooked up the WDTV using HDMI as I always have and it's not working properly. The WDTV menu and everything displays fine but when I try to play a video, the screen goes black and nothing plays, the option menu doesnt come up, and no remote functions work except going back to the menu. I rehooked it back up to the Samsung and it works fine.
WDTV firmware is the latest. Any ideas on why it won't play on the plasma? Thanks. |

Try a hard reset first. If it doesn't work, it could be an HDMI handshake problem with the newer TV. The Gen. 1 only supports HDMI 1.2, whereas the TV might support 1.3 or 1.4. While this shouldn't cause issues, sometimes it does with certain implementations. You can try some other cables and see if that helps. Other than that, since WD has abandoned this model, you'll have to ask Samsung about a fix. If you get to know of one, do let us know as well.

With a 42" screen or larger you will notice a difference. I would spring for the better resolution, you don't want to compromise your gaming experience.
