       xvid not being recognised

    i got this media player the other day and tried watching films from external hdd but most of them are xvid and it doesnt recognise them
    it just recognises the sample in the folder, i tried putting a film on the internal hd and it did the same, not really clued up on this stuff,

    so just wondering how i can sort it out? thanks

    Which firmware version is installed?

    Can you test playback from a small fast pen drive?

    Try a soft/hard reset.

    If nothing works, run MediaInfo on one of the AVIs, then copy-paste the text format report here and we'll see if something strikes us as being not quite kosher.

    1) ensure you have the latest firmware (force a manual check).
    2) ensure your xvids are from an NTSC format versus PAL and, if converted, the same format was used in translation.

    ...also, ensure, if these are rips of your DVDs that they are not heavily encoded (e.g. P90x doesn't rip unless using a specific, earlier, version of DVDfab.

    Why? The player can switch between NTSC and PAL modes, plus how do you know whether snakehuck lives in a PAL country and bought a PAL version?

    When you say "it doesnt recognise them" what exactly do you mean? Can you not see them in the list? Have you chosen to look at VIDEO files rather than MUSIC or PHOTOS from the main menu? LiveHub will at least list anything that looks like a video file so something else is wrong if they don't show up there.

    WDUser is right, LiveHub will recognize any broadcast standard. In fact, LiveHub is pretty good at handling any "standard" videos you throw at it. It's not as fault tolerant as VLC Media Player, but it's pretty good. If the file itself is corrupt, that's another story.

    Occasionally in the middle of playing AVI files I've experienced the player choke and suddenly refuse to recognize any more files, but a hard reset always fixes that.

    Try changing divx extension to .avi
