Hello jdu,
Converting via Mac should be no problem the way the encode was done might be the problem. avi files generally play fine on the WDTV I have yet to run into any problems. What are the files encoded as? xvid divx? How was the ripping done? Do you get anything when trying to view them w/ the WDTV ie: sound or no sound picture no sound? Please explain. Welcome to the forums! Cheers! |

Hi neverlift
I can see the files in WDTV but when I try to play hem I get a message telling that the file format is not supported and it refers me to the user guide. So no picture, no sound. I have the same problem. It seems that somehow the Mac is having a problem writing the NTFS format properly (using both Paragon NTFS or NTFS 3G). If I copy the file to the FAT32 formated disk or MAC formated disk then the WD TV can read it properly.

Hi thauus, Mac can not write to a ntsf disk, also I have tried using the NTFS-3G with no luck at all. I guess we are lucky that the WDTV does read the Mac OS Extended as long as its not journaled.

Fixed. Copied contents of external disk (Maxtor) to PC hard disk, reformatted Maxtor as NTFS and copied files back. All files appear to play now. As I recall, the Maxtor was formatted (NTFS) on a Mac, so maybe that's the cause of the problem. Thanks to all for your help. |

Hi, just bought a WDTV and it won't play .avi files. Most were converted for me by a mac user, will this be a problem? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mellow.gif) Hi, I tried using the 'Mpeg-4' command in 'K9Copy' to convert a VIDEO-TS directory on a DVD into one huge .avi file ((I guess that is what they call the wrapper). I took all the defaults and everything seemed to work fine (successful write) except that WDTV won't play the .avi. The file plays fine on my KUbuntu 8.04 machine. I wrote the .avi file to my WD HomeEdition NTFS drive using sudo mount -t ntfs-3g /dev/sdb1 /mnt/usb. Any ideas anyone? I'm don't want to become a video guru. |

If you haven't yet, try Paragon NTFS 6 if you can find it. Worked for myself and a few others. Anyone know why?

I had the same problem and finally resolved it. I have both Mac and Windows machines at home. Mac has latest Paragon NTFS 7.0.2
The problem was that WDTV refused to play any file copied to the hard drive using the Mac. It wouldn't matter if file was encoded on a Mac or PC, if Mac copied the file (using Paragon) it was sure thing WDTV won't play it. So, I had to re-copy all my files with the Windows PC. It's been working flawlessly ever since. |
